About The Harbour Chippy
The Harbour Chippy is a fish and chips takeaway on the Newquay seafront near the harbour, at 46-48 Fore St. Gluten free fish and chips and a gluten free jumbo plain sausage are available without pre-booking, so gluten free orders need no advance notice. The menu also covers vegan options, with vegan nuggets among them, and the chips come with curry sauce. Customers place orders on a touch screen, and no one takes orders at the counter. Payment is by card only, and cash is not accepted.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the fish and chips, with several calling the fish fresh and the chips spot on, seasoned with just the right salt and vinegar. Gluten free and vegan options come up repeatedly: one diner calls the gluten free fish and chips the best they have had, another ordered fish cakes, a chicken pie and a gluten free jumbo sausage, and others praise the vegan battered sausage, nuggets and a pea fritter. Staff are described as friendly, and several say orders came out quickly, even when busy. The main complaints are mixed. One reviewer found the fish bland with at least six bones, another found the chips undercooked, the battered sausage nearly batter free and oily, and the burger overcooked. Ordering only on a touch screen, with card payment only, also drew criticism, and one missed vegan mayo. Even so, one reviewer went back twice while on holiday.

“It’s a traditional chippy that sells good fresh fish and chips. When we ate here was very busy but still got served within 10 minutes. Would defo recommend to anyone else looking for traditional sea side fish and chips. Thanks guys!!!”

“decently priced fish and chips along the seafront, however there is a screen to order from which sets a strange atmosphere for what looks on the outside to be a classic chippy. we ordered at the very end of a rush and they took their time with the order and we waited around 10 minutes total for a fish and chips and sausage and chips while there were no other customers. the chips were good, nothing to fault, however the sausage was smaller than expected and the fish was bland and had multiple bones in that i unfortunately discovered after having to spit them out! one or two and i wouldn’t have been bothered but i must’ve found at least 6. you get what you pay for i suppose.”

“Great to find so many vegan options! Battered sausages, burger and vegan nuggets! Adult and kids portions too. Plus, they’re actually greats chips too! Proper chippy chips and not cop out ‘takeaway’ ones.”

“I moved to Cornwall last year and have been on a mission to find a great fish and chip spot—and this one near Newquay harbour is easily the best I’ve tried so far! The fish was fresh, the chips were spot on, and everything tasted exactly how you want proper seaside fish and chips to be. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to!”
