About Tredegar Arms
Tredegar Arms is a historic pub in Bassaleg, Newport, on Caerphilly Rd. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome, with a resident pub dog on site. The bar pours a draught selection, and the limited food menu runs to smaller bites alongside mains such as chicken and ham hock pie, fish and chips, and apple crumble with ice cream. A Sunday roast is on the menu, and live sport shows on Sky Sports and TNT Sports. Drinks are ordered and paid for at the bar, while food orders can go through the GreenKing app.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the friendly staff and the value, with a good number singling out the food as lovely and reasonably priced. One describes a three course meal of chicken tenders with bbq sauce, small fish and chips, then apple crumble with ice cream, all cooked to perfection. Another calls the smaller bites fantastic and full of taste, served piping hot. The draught selection and the garden with a cold pint also draw praise, and one family says a friendly dog put their nervous daughter at ease. The caveats are about service pace. One reviewer waited close to an hour for lunch mains and reports a chicken and ham hock pie that arrived burnt outside and frozen inside, with a dry kids burger and only one barman serving. Another notes a noticeable wait for food and outdoor tables left uncleared with glasses piling up. A third says a dessert was forgotten and then only one was brought. The app also would not take drink orders, so one diner went to the bar.

“Amazing atmosphere. Fantastic selection on draught. Was served by a few people but all of the staff were phenomenal. Owen, Leo, Riley, Talia and Paeton really made the night special by going above and beyond for us. Thank you so much- we will definitely return.”

“We waited just under an hour for our lunch time mains to come out. The staff were few on the ground and there was consistently a queue at the bar to order and pay, as there was only one barman there taking orders and making drinks. At one point, a customer came behind the bar to take her hot drinks with her as the barman was too busy to pass the completed drinks across. I ordered a chicken and ham hock pie, it arrived burnt on the outside and frozen on the inside, and the chips were undercooked. The kids burger we ordered was dry and wasn't eaten. Just felt very unorganised and understaffed, and they're lucky we noticed the frozen pie as I could have been very ill from that. Safe to say we won't be rushing back any time soon which is a shame as it's a lovely looking pub.”
