About Nest Newcastle
Nest Newcastle is a modern British restaurant on Chillingham Road in Heaton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, at 258-260. The kitchen leads with a tasting menu, and its dishes carry pun names, including Liver Let Die and Trick Or Treacle. Drinks or wine pairings are offered with the tasting menu, and the team talks guests through the pairings. A smaller evening taster menu runs alongside the main format, and a longer 10 course menu is served at Christmas. The restaurant describes itself as a neighbourhood place built around a shared love of food and wine, and the dining style is informal, without fine-dining formality. Sunday lunches are also served.

Customer Review Summary
The tasting menu is what most reviewers come for, described as fun, creative and relaxed, with several calling it the best value in the North East. Standouts include a beetroot and goat's cheese doughnut paired with a beetroot gimlet, an asparagus and carrot course, lamb with carrot, and trout, while another reviewer praised the steak and cod. Staff are described as friendly, warm and welcoming, and the wine pairings came with excellent descriptions from the team. Two reviewers were disappointed. One found the scallop overcooked and rubbery, the Prosecco ice lolly like plain ice, and the venue cold with bright spotlights. Another had tikka chicken so undercooked it was slimy, found the "posh" beans on toast anything but, and said the toilets needed attention. One regular found the ten course Christmas menu too much food. A nut allergy was well accommodated, and one family's birthday cake request was granted when the kitchen phoned hours before the meal to say it could be done.

“Another amazing meal at Nest . This is the best value tasting menu in the North East . Each course was different and special . My favourite this time was the Asparagus and carrot course . The team always go out of their way to make it a special experience but keeping it a relaxed friendly dining experience”

“How lucky is Heaton to have Nest! Our third visit last night and in my opinion this is by far the best dining experience in Newcastle, gorgeous ambience & the food is always creative, beautifully presented & absolutely delicious. What really makes this place though is the staff, informed, friendly, warm & welcoming, nothing over the top but none of the big formality you often get in fine dining restaurants. You really feel at home & like you’ve come round for dinner. The experience is just right, & the team from kitchen to service nail it. £75 for the evening taster menu on a Saturday night is exceptional value for the quality of the food, a treat but well worth it every time. Highly recommended & we will be back..”

“A genuinely nice place to eat. It's not claiming to be a three star Michelin restaurant - it's good food at a sensible price and a lovely atmosphere. The best compliment I can pay is its very similar in vibe to another restaurant we used to go to - Peace & Loaf in Jesmond - which sadly closed down - this is a great alternative. The tasting menu is fun and interesting - are all the dishes fantastic - no - but they're interesting and make for lively discussion. I would recommend without hesitation. Oh and the staff are really nice, friendly and approachable. It cost about a 1/3 of Solstice and House of Tides - which keeps things in perspective!”

“Great dinner at Nest again. There wasn’t a bad course, with the lamb/carrot and trout being stand outs for us. My nut allergy was very well accommodated. Very enjoyable wine pairing too, with excellent descriptions by the Nest team. Lovely relaxed service. We will definitely revisit.”

“Had high hopes for Nest and really wanted to love it. Sadly, the food did not live up to the hype. The menu didn’t feel coherent or tell a story. There were some really weird combinations like udon noodle, birria beef and nacho cheese bites. Also beef dish came before the fish. Many key ingredients were out of season and quite tasteless. My scallop was overcooked and rubbery. The Prosecco ice lolly tasted like plain ice. The only course I enjoyed was the first dish- nested egg. Aside from the food, the venue was cold, the spotlights were very bright, and the music choice didn’t fit the mood. Service was fine but the staff were quite shy and didn’t explain the dishes aside from reading what was already on the menu. I expected more for £100pp. Wouldn’t recommend.”
