About Branches Restaurant
Branches Restaurant is a restaurant on Osborne Road in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne, with a cherry blossom tree standing in the dining room so that diners can sit under the tree. The kitchen offers a three-course set menu alongside an à la carte menu, and meals can begin with bread and olives or the soup of the day. Mains include seafood linguine made with fresh pasta and an 8 oz rib eye steak, while vegetarian choices are a risotto or a pasta dish. Cocktails and a range of other drinks are served. The team provides table service and takes coats at the door. The restaurant opens Thursday to Sunday and is closed Monday through Wednesday. Small complimentary tasters arrive between courses.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the food itself, with the seafood linguine, the tomato and red pepper soup, soft bread and olives, and an 8 oz rib eye singled out by name. Close behind is the fixed-price three-course menu, which reviewers call delicious and well balanced, along with the cocktails and the small free tasters sent out between courses. Several describe the dining room under the cherry blossom tree, and one was given a table there for a birthday. Waitresses are praised as friendly, attentive and kind to a young child. The recurring complaints are about value and range. One reviewer found the meal pricey, and another says the vegetarian choices have stayed at a risotto or a pasta for over five years. The sharpest negative is a Sunday dinner where the waitress was described as rude and dismissive, swapping potatoes for chips carried an extra charge, and a third side that never arrived was still billed after the table raised it. Even so, that reviewer called the food very good, and others suggest dressing smart for special occasions.

“Excellent service and food, been several times BUT the vegetarian options have NEVER changed in over 5 years. Can almost predict it will be either risotto or the pasta on the menu, and same flavours too. Please can you offer more options as I would genuinely come more frequently if you did, but if I came each month, it would literally be just these two options. Why??!! I am writing alot with the hope you would consider this seriously. Mentioned it before and it has never changed!”

“Second time in a year coming to Newcastle and this was my second trip to Branches. Had to come back here after my first trip. Everything here is delicious! This time I started with the bread and olives. The bread was so soft and fluffy and spot on. Then I had the soup of the day which was tomato and red pepper. I am not a fan of just tomato soup so this one with the red peppers was fabulous! The red peppers add just the right amount of sweetness to the tomato. For main I had the seafood linguine. It had a mix of fish and salmon and prawns and mussels in a creamy sauce. The pasta is fresh made and was cooked to perfection! Unfortunately I had no room for dessert! I am a very picky eater and don’t like overly fragrant spices and everything here was perfect. Can’t wait for my next trip back to Newcastle so I can come here again!”

“Visited Branches for Sunday dinner. The food was very good and the setting is lovely, but the service completely let it down. Our waitress was rude and dismissive throughout. A simple request to swap potatoes for chips was treated like a problem and came with an excessive extra charge. We also ordered three sides but were brought two, told we had only ordered two, and despite raising it, were still charged for all three. For a restaurant at this price point, the service is unacceptable. Good food can’t make up for poor attitude and being charged for items we didn’t order. I wouldn’t return.”

“Food is absolutely amazing, we ordered from the A la carte menu. It was for a special birthday so they gave us a nice table just under the tree. Service was 1st class too from taking our coats to serving the food. Highly recommended”

“We had an excellent dining experience at Branches in Newcastle. The food was outstanding, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We opted for the pre-fix three-course menu, which was both delicious and well-balanced. Maria took great care of us and provided exceptional service with her warm and professional attitude. This restaurant is definitely a must-visit! Perfect for a cozy dinner for two or any special occasion. Highly recommended!”
