Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the strongest praise, with beef and lamb dinners described as proper home-cooked food, and one reviewer says they would travel six hours just for it. Close behind are the loaded chilli fries, including the salt, pepper and chilli chicken version, and steak pies or steak and ale pie with lots of gravy. Others single out a chilli con carne one reviewer calls possibly the finest they have tasted, a tower burger, a pulled pork burger and a shared sticky toffee pudding. Walkers passing through on long hikes mention quick service and generous portions for the money, and several call the staff friendly. The beer selection and a well poured pilsner also get nods. The main complaint concerns booking. One reviewer who hadn't reserved bought a pint, was then told the pub was fully booked for food and the tables were reserved, and left to eat elsewhere. Another found the very large meal not very tasty. One diner's dog was given treats and a cool bowl of water.

“A lovely pub, but one that is very much geared towards locals. That said, they welcome Wall walkers happily and I enjoyed my time there. The salt, pepper and chilli chicken loaded fries were superb and I’d happily have eaten three portions!”

“Possibly the finest chilli con carne I have ever tasted. Came out piping hot, nice and spicy without being too spicy, beautifully cooked as was the rice. Lovely chips as well. My son had the tower burger with fries. Absolutely tip top, he thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend a visit.”

“Friendly pub with a good selection of beers. Pints are a good quality and the pilsners are not too gassy. The loaded chilli fries are particularly exquisite, perfectly complimenting the well poured Staropramen. The staff are friendly, and are not afraid to chase down bill Dodgers, occasionally providing entertainment whilst you drink/eat, dragging the miscreants back inside to clear their debt. Worth a visit if you are hungry/thirsty and are in the area.”
