About Crows Nest
Crows Nest is a pub in Newcastle Upon Tyne, at 137 Percy St, close to the university campus in the city centre. The bar pours beers from local and student breweries, including Stu Brew Panic Masters pale ale, alongside cask ales, wines and cocktails, with non-alcoholic options too. The kitchen serves pub dishes, among them fish and chips with peas and vinegar and a steak and ale pie with mash and mushy peas. Screens show live football and other sport across Sky and TNT Sports, in a room of wood furnishings with plenty of space. A function room can be hired for groups that want a private area, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, described as hot, crispy and fresh, with one diner noting it took a bit of time and paired nicely with beer, vinegar and a side of peas. A steak and ale pie with rich gravy, mash and mushy peas also gets praise from a first-time visitor to a British pub. Close behind is the beer range, with reviewers citing an excellent selection of ales, a student-brewed Panic Masters pale ale and a Northern Monk pick. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and the atmosphere is described as lovely for a pint and a chat during the week and even better on match days. Complaints are fewer but specific. One diner found a steak tough, like jerky, though the peppercorn sauce had fire, and another says they were refused service after a single drink with no explanation from the assistant manager. One reviewer recalls a bartender suggesting an imperial stout and letting them sample a few beers on tap.

“A gorgeous pub in the city centre, affordable food and pints. As a student in Newcastle, I love how close the pub is to campus. The staff are all so lovely, friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere during the week is lovely for a pint and a chat with friends. On a match day the atmosphere is even better!”

“Beth from the crows (assistant manager) is so rude I was enjoying a nice couple of drinks and she kicked me out for no reason, I've never experienced this with any bar I've ever been in. No consideration for the customers. It came came out the blue such a weird experience. I've worked in hospitality most of my life and never treated my customer is such a manner. I asked her why but she didn't give an explanation just didn't serve me. I only one drink wasn't drunk. Absolutely desgrace of a company. Get yourself sorted out. Bullying shouldn't be happening at this rate. Spoilt my night my vibe don't go there if I was you. Miserable assistant manager will give you the ick and specially her daggers from across the room. Telling the other staff to give me daggers too not right at all. Get a grip and grow up.”

“Never met a steak before that was trying so hard to be jerky Speaks about the supplier not the chef though. Everything else on the plate was decent and the peppercorn sauce had fire. Bar staff welcoming.”
