About The Poachers Cottage
The Poachers Cottage is a pub in Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Armstrong St, with live entertainment most nights of the week. The schedule includes karaoke, a quiz night, a buskers night and bands, plus a live singer, so there is something on for anyone looking for an evening out. Inside, dark wood furnishings, exposed brick and beams set the room. The kitchen turns out burgers and loaded fries, and Sunday dinner is on the menu too. The pub is open daily. A conservatory room is used for private parties and group bookings.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, with the Sunday dinner, loaded fries, burgers and the rib and chicken platter named as favourites, and they describe large portions, plenty of choice and food arriving hot and quickly. Close behind is the staff, called welcoming and friendly, including the girls on the bar, with several noting fast service even for tables of 13 and 14. The dog-friendly area gets its own praise from dog owners, and live singers, karaoke and quiz nights add to a lively atmosphere. The complaints are sharper. One reviewer who booked the conservatory for an anniversary party found the tables and window ledges filthy and was handed a spray bottle to clean them, then saw bar staff chatting while drinks went unserved. Another called the bar staff rude, said the Sunday dinner had frozen veg and packet sliced meat, and said live music started 40 minutes early. One diner found the steaks had sold out, yet still left happy after using a 40% off mains code.

“We had booked the conservatory room for a private party for a 60th wedding anniversary, We had arrived early to begin setting up decorations and we were disgusted to see every table and all the window ledges were filthy. After letting one of the bar staff on duty aware of the situation we were handed a spray bottle and blue roll to clean the tables ourselves. After finally getting the room to a presentable state throughout the night the service never improved as it was near impossible to get served for a drink as half the bar staff clearly couldn’t be bothered and decided to stand at the end of the bar chatting the entire evening, we had to unwrap all the buffet food ourselves and clear empty glasses and rubbish at end of night with no help. No complaints were made on the night as we didn’t want to spoil the celebration in any way but it’s such a shame as pub inside is lovely but would benefit a lot more with more experienced and hard working staff.”

“I had a really good experience at this pub. I enjoyed the food and I appreciated the presentation of it, it also came out quite quickly. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, making it a great place to enjoy a meal and a few drinks. The customer service was great too, staff were welcoming and made my experience feel calm . I’d definitely recommend it and would happily go back.”

“The RUDEST bar staff I’ve ever come across £15 for a Sunday dinner with frozen veg and packet sliced meat I wouldn’t of fed to my dog. Live music started 40 mins early screeching through the bar supposed to a family friendly establishment The place has just gone entirely down hill Might I add the manager was on the bar when being spoken to like rubbish !”

“Fantastic dog-friendly pub with a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were incredibly welcoming to both us and our puppy. The food was excellent — generous portions and plenty of choice on the menu. Friendly service, great food and a nice seperate pet friendly area— we’ll definitely be back.”
