About Wust Al Balad Restaurant - مطعم وسط البلد
Wust Al Balad Restaurant - مطعم وسط البلد is a Yemeni restaurant at 16B Robert St in Manchester, with decor and a layout inspired by old Yemeni and Gulf architecture. Groups can pre-order a whole lamb by phone and eat in a large private room that seats around 20. The lamb mandi and chicken mandi come with large portions of rice, and the mandi for two is ordered as a shared dish. Lamb Aqda is served with bread, and mint yogurt and chilli arrive on the side. Masoub, made with bread, banana and cream, covers dessert. The kitchen also runs a bakery side that turns out fresh bread.

Customer Review Summary
Lamb mandi is what diners return to most, with reviewers calling the lamb tender, succulent and falling off the bone, and the rice portions generous. Close behind, the chicken mandi, the Lamb Aqda served with khubz, and liver with cheddar cheese and tamees bread draw praise, while the Masoub dessert of bread, banana and cream is singled out as rich and comforting. Several describe the private dining rooms as unique and easy with children, and ordering by QR code at the table as quick. Reviewers repeatedly call the portions big and the prices affordable, with leftovers to take home. Staff are described as welcoming and friendly. The complaints are small but specific: one reviewer found the rice needed more flavour, another expected something different from the Arabic Salad and found it plain, and one notes the restroom facilities could be renovated. Several suggest booking only around Eid and Ramadan, and one suggests calling ahead to pre-order a whole lamb for a group. One diner was offered three kinds of rice after being unsure what to order, and another received complimentary meat broth.

“My first time visiting Wust Al Balad Restaurant, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were very welcoming and professional, and our server was especially kind and friendly. We ordered the mandi for two, liver with cheddar cheese, and tamees bread, everything was delicious, freshly prepared, and very filling. They also kindly offered us complimentary meat broth, which was a lovely touch. The price was very reasonable too, around £35 including soft drinks. Excellent food, generous portions, and great service. Definitely recommended, and I’ll happily visit again!”

“I’ve travelled all over Britain, and I can genuinely say I’ve never had Saudi food here that was this delicious, fresh, and spotlessly clean. Wust Al-Balad is an absolute gem. Proper authentic Saudi food, generous portions, beautifully cooked meat and rice, and everything is absolutely full of flavour. The quality is outstanding, and the service is genuinely five-star — warm, attentive, and professional from start to finish. I also really like the private dining setup. You get your own space, and ordering is easy through a QR code at the table. If you’re coming as a group, they’ve also got a large private room that can accommodate around 20 people. You can even pre-order a whole lamb for the group — just give them a call in advance and they’ll arrange it for you. And whatever you do, don’t leave without trying the Masoub. It’s a traditional Saudi dessert made with bread, banana and cream — rich, comforting, and ridiculously good. Easily one of the best Saudi dining experiences I’ve had anywhere in the UK. 🇸🇦🇬🇧🔥”

“An absolutely incredible place! Not only was the food great, but my family and I also received fantastic service. The lamb tasted wonderful, and all the food was at an excellent price. I want to congratulate the waiter who served us and the chef, whom we had the chance to meet.”

“The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. I wasn't sure which type of rice to order, so they kindly brought me three different kinds. Every single one was delicious and full of flavour. The hospitality was outstanding, and the portions were generous. It's also very child friendly, which made the experience even better. So far this is the best Yemeni restaurant in Manchester. Highly recommend it”

“Private space to eat and authentic layout is unique/ enjoyable and felt fully immersed in a Middle Eastern experience! Very cool! Dined for x3 with no wait time at around 5pm on a Saturday. QR code to order food on your phone and for a assistance which was very clever and easy instead of getting up to walk to the cashier or locate staff. They came really quick to help and bring the food. Staff were very friendly and nice. The portions were big and plenty left to take home - bargain. Very affordable. Lamb was nice and very succulent, rice could have had a bit more flavour but overall tasty with the mint yogurt and chilli they provided on the side. Also, the 'Arabic Salad ' was just normal salad, I was expecting something different so a little disappointed. The Baba Ghanouge was tasty. Would come again to try the different dishes I didn't get to order!”
