Quick info
About MR THOMAS'S CHOP HOUSE
Mr Thomas's Chop House is a chophouse restaurant and bar at 52 Cross St in Manchester, set in a former pub with Victorian tiles and a narrow layout. The menu follows British pub fare, led by the Barnsley chop and corned beef hash. The Sunday roast comes as roast beef or half chicken, served with a Yorkshire pudding and gravy, and a sourdough boule is suggested to go with the gravy. The bar pours Guinness and other beer alongside the food. Dogs are welcome, so regulars with a four-legged companion can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise, with diners describing roast beef and half chicken in portions big enough to defeat them, an extra Yorkshire pudding, and gravy one reviewer calls sensational. One reviewer finds the roast potatoes and chicken skin could be crispier. Close behind, reviewers single out the corned beef hash, huge fish and chips, and a pint of Guinness. Visitors describe elevated pub food in a narrow, cozy, traditionally British room. Service splits opinion: several call the staff friendly and welcoming, while others find it inattentive or slow. The sharpest complaint comes from a large group who say the bill came in above the online menu after a same-day price rise nobody mentioned. They add that the house pie was only cheese and mashed potato, the chips tasted like frozen ones, and a side of green veg arrived when the main was nearly finished. A couple of others also find the food a bit expensive. One reviewer suggests ordering the sourdough boule to go with the gravy.

“Popped in for a quick drink and discovered they do dinner. So full roast beef Sunday dinner it was. Wow..thats the best Sunday dinner I've ever had (sorry mum) really nice. The staff were friendly and the food served quickly. They have pie of the day so we will return for that if its half as good as the Sunday dinner it will be amazing. I had a pint of Guinness which was also really nice one of the best ive had. So all in all a great place for dinner.”

“Molly’s service was 10/10. I would come back just because of her good treatment. Food was ok and the place is one of its kind in the city. I would visit again but i’d expect to spend a little bit less. Nacho x”

“It has a very traditional britidh vibe. Food is a bit more expensive (imagine like austrian pricing) but it was so amazing and delicios! I would absolutely recommend! Staff is also very friendly and welcoming! If i can give more then 5 stars, i definitely will!”

“Wonderful place, I have been here in occasion of an holiday from Italy with my family. We all had fish and chips and it was great, portions were huge! The service was nice and gentile, I give 4 points to the environment because it is a bit narrow. Anyway I advice this place to everyone.”

“There are some elements of the Sunday Roast at The Chop House which could be improved upon... the potatoes could do with a touch more roasting to give them some crispiness, and the Chicken would benefit from a little bit more of the same crispiness on the skin... BUT... You can not flaw the sheer amount of food you're given. This has to be the best value Sunday Roast. I was defeated by my half chicken... Leaving just the wing on the plate, but then I did have an extra Yorkshire pudding (flawless and huge), and the service was perfect - friendly, knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. If you're looking for a healthy portion of food, with sensational gravy (get the sourdough boule you'll thank me for it) head to Thomas's Chop House this winter!”
