Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the carrilleras (pork cheeks), called tender and flavourful, with the bistec al mojo rojo close behind. Patatas bravas, goats cheese and aubergine dishes, the tortilla, and a hazelnut chocolate pastry dessert also earn praise, and one group enjoyed a long spread that included gambas al ajillo and croquetas. Reviewers describe welcoming, helpful staff who explained the menu and acknowledged a birthday booking, though one found service slightly slow and another was brought the wrong order. The recurring complaint is heat: two reviewers say the room lacked air conditioning or ventilation in summer, and one notes the draught near the entrance door. The octopus draws criticism twice, described as flavourless or like boiled potatoes with a little octopus. One paella lacked the crispy rice bottom, and its prawns came out gooey and mushy, so the table set them aside. Several reviewers booked through First Table for half off the tapas menu, and one reviewer's table was wobbly and a requested jug of water never arrived.

“Tonight we feasted at La Bandera. The table filled up fast: gambas al ajillo, croquetas, papas arrugadas, pollo asado, parrillada de verduras, tortilla española, calamares, gambas al volcán, pulpo a la gallega, bistec al mojo rojo, and escalopines de pollo. All the dishes were exceptionally well prepared and full of flavour, though we were a little underwhelmed by the tortilla and the papas arrugadas — solid, but not the standouts among such strong company. The service was great too: attentive, and happy to steer us when we weren't sure what to order. Also good was the Albariño, available by the glass. Altogether, a lovely place for me to have celebrated my birthday.”

“We went to celebrate my partner’s birthday, and even with us turning up 10 minutes early for our booking, they were so lovely and attentive, completely taking note of the fact that it was a birthday celebration as we'd mentioned beforehand. The food was absolutely gorgeous, especially the carrilleras. There are very few Spanish places in Manchester where you leave genuinely satisfied with that proper, authentic Spanish flavour, so I highly recommend it. If I had to pick one thing to improve, it’d be the air conditioning, or at least some extra ventilation. The UK really isn't built for the summer, and you could definitely feel the heat inside…”

“If you have an unrefined palate for Spanish cuisine, this basic tapas spot might suffice. otherwise, pass. While the service was acceptable (despite bringing us the wrong order), the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The Bread Dishes: Both the pan con tomate and the bread with ham were incredibly basic and lacked flavor. The bread itself tasted mass-produced rather than fresh or homemade. The Seafood: The octopus was entirely flavorless, completely lacking that authentic, robust Galician style. The only decent saving graces were the carrilleras de cerdo (pork cheeks) and the bistec al mojo rojo, which were actually tender and flavorful. The dining conditions were highly uncomfortable. With outside temperatures hitting around 30°C, the restaurant had no air conditioning, no fans running, and no open windows for ventilation. Eating hot tapas in a stagnant, sweltering room ruined any potential enjoyment. Average food, poor climate control, and lacking authenticity. There are much better tapas options out there.”

“We have not been here in years. We noticed that it was re- decorated. The food was great and the service topped the experience. The lady was extremely friendly, explained the menu, gave us time to choose and explained our options as we booked with the 50% off (first tables)”
