About Moose

Moose is a breakfast restaurant at 20 York St in Manchester, running a diner concept founded in 2006 that takes its cues from New York delis. The kitchen follows an American-Canadian approach to breakfast and brunch, so the menu leans on hearty plates rather than light bites. The breakfast burger comes on a brioche bun with sausage patties, streaky bacon and melted cheese, served with house potato hash and pickles. Bagels are on the menu too, including an Amsterdam bagel, for those who prefer something lighter than a burger. Vegetarians can add grilled halloumi or veggie sausages on the side, and the drinks list includes a vegan hot chocolate alongside the coffee.

Customer Review Summary

Generous portions run through nearly every review, with the Breakfast Burger piled with sausage patties, thick streaky bacon and melted cheese, served with house potato hash and pickles, the clearest example. Close behind are the Loaded Bagel with a rocket side salad, pancakes, the Bronx brunch, and sides of grilled halloumi and streaky bacon beside scrambled eggs on thick granary toast. A vegan hot chocolate and the coffee also draw praise. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and one reviewer notes an order taken without being written down. Queues come up at busy times. The one critical review found the Amsterdam bagel one note, with a bland hollandaise and overpowering balsamic, though the veggie sausages were tasty and the tea strong. That diner also said waters were requested twice and never arrived while staff struggled with the crowd.

“Went to Moose for breakfast, there was a queue but only waited 20mins, the staff were helpful and polite. The menu is varied and it has something for everyone. I had the Amsterdam bagel, it sounded great but in all honesty, it was one note after the second bite, it lacked seasoning and the balsamic overpowered the dish. The hollandaise was rather bland unfortunately. You can’t argue that the portions aren’t good, there was a huge amount of food but it was style over substance. I did order a side of veggie sausages and they were very tasty and the best part of the dish. The tea was strong and the best I’ve had from a dinner in a long time. We ordered waters at the start but they never appeared even having asked twice. It was busy and the staff were polite but they seemed to struggle with the amount of custom at this busy time.”

“Had a great brunch at MOOSE. We had the pancakes and bronx brunch and everything was delicious and nicely presented. A special mention to Meg, who provided excellent service throughout friendly, attentive and made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit for brunch!”

“What can I say? This place was as close to perfection as you can get. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and the portions were incredibly generous. We arrived at around 11:00 a.m. and were greeted by a queue of about 12 people, all waiting in the middle of a heatwave. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long, and once we got inside, we could see exactly why it's so popular. The service was friendly and efficient, the location was excellent, and the food was outstanding from start to finish. I honestly couldn't fault the experience. One tip: if you're planning to visit, I'd recommend making a reservation, especially at busy times. It's definitely worth it!”

“A must for breakfast, every time I stay in Manchester I come to Moose! It’s a favourite haunt for all us competitive powerlifters refeeding after weigh-in, this is where you’ll find us. Very generous portions, freshly prepared, brilliant service & lots of seating inside and outside. Love this place with a big menu.”

“Absolutely delicious food and generous portions too. The coffee was excellent, definitely the best coffee we've had in Manchester. A special shout out to Amy and Jamie for the fantastic service - you balanced being attentive without being intrusive. And thankyou to Matti for the great food, we will be back for more before the end of our trip.”

“Moose Coffee was founded in 2006. The concept grew from a love for the great American breakfast culture and nowhere does it better than the diners & delis of New York City. We aim to provide an American-Canadian-influenced breakfast and brunch experience.”
