Quick info
About China Buffet
China Buffet is a buffet restaurant in Manchester serving Chinese food, reached down a steep row of stairs at 16 Nicholas St. Each sitting has a one-hour time limit, so diners plan their plates within that hour. The lunch buffet and the separate dinner buffet both run on a help-yourself basis. The spread includes egg fried rice, several kinds of noodles and beef in black bean sauce. Ribs, spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken sit alongside them. For dessert, staff serve ice cream from a machine, and there is a fruit selection and cakes. The seating area is small, with a little Chinese decor.

Customer Review Summary
The main complaints concern the one-hour limit, which one diner said left them rushed, and a small, cramped dining room. Some found the egg fried rice bland, the salt and pepper chicken wings plain, and the beef and chicken too soft. Desserts were called lacking by one reviewer who found only jelly and cakes, and another noted staff have to serve the ice cream. One said the buffet sits down a steep row of stairs, which is hard for anyone with mobility issues. One reviewer who arrived just before opening got a seat without queuing.

“I was searching for a budget friendly chinese food in Manchester and this place turned out to be great. They have many varieties of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Plus their dessert and fruit section were equally appealing. Plan to visit again soon.”

“We would consider ourselves chinese connoisseurs. We’ve eaten at most. This is amazing. Ignore the bad reviews. I am a very fussy eater so this is a genuine review. We went for the lunch time buffet, so can’t speak for the evening buffet. All of the meat was so soft, not chewy or tough. Good variety of different meats. The egg fried rice is gorgeous, and the noodles. They have the best sesame toast we have ever eaten. Very nicely cooked and all the food was very tasty. My honest critiques: they didn’t have duck and pancakes on the lunch menu which is a shame. You also only get 1 hour so I felt a bit rushed to eat as quick as I could. But irher than that, we are definitely coming back. Thank you China 🩷”

“Pretty respectable food and great value for money. £13.85 all you can eat Chinese/cantonese style food in 60 minutes (not sure if this applies for all days or just rush hour). Pork chops in Cantonese sauce and the BBQ roast pork (char siu) were my personal favourites. Egg fried rice was a bit bland. Restaurant is quite small and a bit cramped but clean. Staff are nice and friendly, and work very quickly to keep the quick turnover of food.”

“Just as good as last year. Price only went up by a quid but would definitely go back to this place often if I lived in the city because it's very good value for money. All you can eat for £13.95 for such tasty food is a rare gem. Be there just before it opens so that you can get a seat quickly without queuing.”
