About Wazuzhi Dessert Room

Wazuzhi Dessert Room is a dessert restaurant in Manchester, on the top floor above a sister sushi restaurant at 63 Faulkner St in Chinatown. The menu centres on Hong Kong-style and Asian-style desserts, and the croffle is a croissant and waffle hybrid served with vanilla ice cream in Nutella, Oreo Nutella and brown cheese versions. The shaved snow ice comes in mango, topped with fresh mango and tapioca pearls, and a half-and-half option pairs chocolate with mango. Tau foo fah arrives as warm silken tofu with sweet black sesame syrup. The room is small, with close seating, and a wait to get in is usual, though it is shorter than at the restaurant downstairs. The dessert room is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Customer Review Summary

The croffle, a croissant and waffle hybrid, is what reviewers raise most, with the Nutella, Oreo Nutella and brown cheese versions called mind blowing, magnificent and delicious. Close behind are the mango snow ice, served in one account with fresh cut mango and tapioca pearls, and the warm silken tofu with sweet black sesame syrup. One diner calls the black sesame paste a nice dessert for a cold night. Vanilla mochi ice cream and a banana and peanut butter bubble waffle are called good, while the raspberry mochi ice cream was okayish and the matcha cheesecake bland. Staff are described as friendly and humble. The recurring trade-off is the room itself, which reviewers find small, packed and loud, with queues outside and a sense of being rushed in and out. One reviewer says screaming, unsupervised children severely hurt their visit and that staff did not step in. Another wanted bigger portions and more flavour. One pair loved the Nutella croffle enough to return the next day, fighting over the last bite both times.

“Edit - More fantastic deserts Fabulous desserts served above the sushi bar. The range of Asian sweet treats is definitely worth exploring, we opted for the mango snow ice, croffle (croissant and waffle hybrid) with brown cheese and the tau foo fah, black and white (warm silken tofu with sweet black sesame syrup). All were delicious and hit the spot. The down side to this place is unfortunately other people, as it's a bustling little room the noise and jostling can sometimes be excessive, however today we were sat next to a family that believe it is fine to let their young children run free and scream very loudly in a small space filled with people trying to enjoy their desserts, unfortunate timing on our part maybe, but I hoped the staff may step in and ask the parents to do some parenting, they didn't in this instance which did severely impact our enjoyment. Hopefully next time we will not have too many screaming children running loose, as this place is genuinely a 5-star experience in that instance.”

“Absolutely delectable food. Went there and ordered a croffle and it was magnificent. Strongly recommend. Only little issue is they rush you in and out a bit quick but that's just because its busy.”

“This place is AMAZING! The desserts are to die for- set in Chinatown, it’s on the top floor of a restaurant. The seating is tight, the atmosphere friendly and the desserts are lush- quantity is insane and prices are great. Favorite place to go and will always visit again.”

“Had their black sesame paste. Absolutely amazing and highly recommended - especially to those with a proclivity towards Asian delicacies. A nice dessert for a cold night.”
