Quick info
About Babylon
Babylon is a shawarma restaurant in Manchester at 125 Oxford Rd, and it has served the road since 1982 as its first and oldest takeaway. The restaurant sits among the university campus buildings, so students and staff nearby have a long-running place to eat close at hand. The menu centres on shawarma, with a lamb plate served with rice and salad and a mixed chicken and lamb version served in Iraqi bread. Homemade sauce comes with the dishes, and hummus is available with extra on request. Pizzas, including a loaded chicken pizza, and burgers sit alongside the shawarma. Diners can also sit in and eat on site.

Customer Review Summary
Shawarma is what most reviewers come for, especially the lamb shawarma plate with rice and salad and a mixed shawarma in Iraqi bread, which diners describe as fresh, succulent and flavoursome, with a homemade sauce. Portions are repeatedly called generous, and several say food arrived quickly even during a busy lunchtime. Close behind are doner and chips, with the chips called brilliant, and a fully loaded pizza with huge, moist chicken chunks. Its position among the university buildings suits a post-pint meal or a campus lunch. The main criticism concerns the burgers, which one reviewer calls hit or miss, with patties undercooked and soggy on the last few visits. Another preferred the chicken to the lamb in a mixed shawarma. Several describe the staff as friendly and welcoming, and a clean place to eat gets a mention. One diner asked for hummus with their takeaway shawarma, and the server happily added an extra spoon.

“Mo was really friendly, he is a nice guy to talk to, the food was fresh, tasty and was quick delivered, I loved the shawarma that they served, it really filled me up and I recommend going there again and especially meeting Mo! 😊”

“Recommended by a friend to go for the lamb shwarma plate with rice and salad. Was served extremely quickly despite it being very busy at lunchtime. It was less that £8, and perhaps the best shwarma I've had, ever. Generous portions as well. Highly recommended, can't wait to go again.”

“Cracking schwarma, doner and chips! Succulent and flavoursome. Babylon is conveniently placed amidst the MMU buildings, too, for a post-pint meal. Regarding service, Mo looked after us - warm and kind, even whilst busy, giving a large portion size! Would recommend.”

“I REPEAT DO NOT COME HERE! Two strands of human hair inside my chicken fatayer. Felt absolutely disgusted especially after paying £8.50 which is already a ridiculous price for such a small meal. Staff were completely unprofessional and very unaccommodating.”

“The food is so delicious and soo good, i’ve been here twice now and I will definitely be revisiting again. Always good quality every time I visit. The staff are friendly and very welcoming five stars.”
