Quick info
About Federal Cafe Bar
Federal Cafe Bar is a brunch restaurant on Circle Square in Manchester, taking its cues from Kiwi and Aussie neighbourhood hangouts. The menu includes Turkish eggs and a mushroom and halloumi toast that can be served with eggs. A halal steak sandwich with fried egg sits alongside them for diners who want halal meat at brunch. Speciality coffee runs next to the food, with flat whites and long blacks served with hot water on the side. The kitchen adjusts dishes on request, such as sauce on the side or scrambled eggs instead of poached. The café is small with tight seating, and a queue outside and a wait for a table are usual, depending on the time.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the French toast, and several return for it, with the cinnamon roll also called a standout. Close behind are the mushroom and halloumi toast, the Turkish eggs, which one describes as a very generous portion, and the steak sandwich, praised with fried egg and with hot sauce. The eggs benedict gets credit for a rich hollandaise and nicely toasted sourdough, though one reviewer found the mushrooms a tiny bit oily. Also mentioned are the salmon bagel, falafel sandwich, acai bowl with homemade granola, and a flat white called excellent. One reviewer notes the menu is easy to customise, such as sauce on the side or scrambled instead of poached eggs. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, with one server singled out for making a diner's day. The recurring drawback is a queue and tight seating, with reviewers noting a wait for a table depending on the day, though those who mention it call the wait worth it. One diner liked getting a long black with hot water on the side.

“We had a nice, simple brunch here before starting our day in the city. The staff were fantastic and the vibes were great. We'd definitely come back to try more of the menu because everything looked delicious!!”

“I was just in for brunch this morning and had an amazing meal. The avocado toast with bacon was amazing but by far the best part of the meal was the server Sarah!! She was so bright and personable and honestly made my day. I couldn’t believe it that she only just started, she was truly incredible and really added to the friendly/welcoming vibes”

“Fabulous place for breakfast/brunch! Very friendly and warm welcome by the lass who greeted me as I walked in just after 7:30am. Got busy around 8am. Nice vibe and atmosphere. Excellent specialty coffee and great food. All the usual things you expect on the menu. I had the Turkish eggs which were fab and a very generous portion. Highly recommend!”

“So glad to find this fab brunch spot. Tge friendly and attentive service team made us very welcome and the food came out really quickly. My mushroom and halloumi with eggs was perfect and the long black coffee was just how I like it, with hot water on the side (too many places add the water and I'd rather decide how much for myself). We just had room to share a yummy acai bowl with homemade granola. Wish we had this cafe down in the south East!”

“Me and my boyfriend visited Federal recently and had such a lovely experience. Our server Thalia was absolutely amazing — so friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit. The staff are so lovely I’m convinced I could arrive in a bad mood and leave feeling on top of the world! The food was delicious too! I had the mushroom and halloumi toast which was incredible (see picture), and my boyfriend had the salmon bagel which he loved (no picture as he couldn’t wait to get it eaten!) The food is also notably and easily customisable, I was able to ask for sauce on the side and scrambled eggs instead of poached. These are just a couple of the options, all available in the app, no hassle. Not only was Thalia brilliant, but all of the staff we interacted with were so kind and helpful. The prices were also really reasonable for the quality of the food and service. We’ll definitely be coming back!”
