“After Taste – Hong Kong-Inspired Desserts in Manchester Nestled in the basement of Dragon Oriental, After Taste offers a unique taste of Hong Kong’s traditional desserts. Our specialties include Mango Pomelo Sago and Coconut Milk Sago—light, creamy, and packed with tropical flavor. We highly recommend our signature Bingsu: a refreshing, colorful shaved ice dessert that’s as delicious as it is Instagram-worthy. Whether you're in the mood for something nostalgic or something new, After Taste is your sweet escape in the city. ✨ Taste the tradition. Stay for the Bingsu.”

About Aftertaste Dessert

Aftertaste Dessert is a Hong Kong-style dessert restaurant in Manchester, set in the basement of Dragon Oriental on Faulkner St. The menu is built around Bingsu shaved ice, served in portions large enough to share between two, with flavours that include mango coconut and hojicha. Beyond the shaved ice, the 92-dish menu covers Hong Kong-style desserts such as tofu pudding and Handmade Black Sesame Sweet Soup. The room is small, with about five or six tables, so a wait for a table is common at peak times. A minimum spend applies. Some dishes are not halal, and those are labelled as such.

“Their Hojicha Bingsu was amazing and big portion too. One of the best bingsu flavour that I ever had but the service was just a let down, me and 3 of my friends wanted to share a dessert as the portion were big after having our lunch. As we all sat down already, my friends had to go outside because of the minimum spend. The store was not busy at all as there are only two table occupied including ours. Would love to go again hopefully.”

“omg what a special experience! I had the matcha + strawberry bingsu. I am a massive matcha fan + this was good quality matcha 💚 my brother had to help me finish it because it was so MASSIVE but every layer was delicious + not too sweet. My new favourite place. Lovely friendly staff + good vibes too 🥹🥹🥹”

“The food was amazing. I ordered the Passionfruit, Mango & Coconut Bingsoo (£11.50) (attached is a picture). It tasted really nice and the portion size was quite large. I was seated within 10 minutes, however, depending on the time of day, it may be quite busy and wait times can be up to 30 minutes.”

“Loved it😍 Got myself a very sophisticated ice cream matcha desert and it was so much fun to eat it! It was huge, I definitely recommend sharing😅 The price is a bit steep, but should be easier to share. This dessert place is downstairs from the main restaurant, it's small with 5-6 tables. A bit crammed, but I went there for a fun and adorable dessert and I absolutely got it😊 The staff was lovely!”

“The taste of beans in silky tofu pudding was rich. The only disappointment was the instruction. The timer set was 15min for waiting the formation of the pudding, but the result of 15mins was pretty liquid. 30 will have a better result, check the video of 15 min vs 30 min.”

Customer Review Summary

Bingsu is the draw at this basement dessert spot, and reviewers repeatedly describe it as huge, with several saying one is big enough to share. Hojicha, taro mochi milk, matcha and strawberry, and mango coconut versions all get praise, and one reviewer calls the layers delicious and not too sweet. Close behind are the Mango Pomelo Sago, Basque cheesecake and the silky tofu pudding, which one reviewer calls very authentic. Others mention the Handmade Black Sesame Sweet Soup and Hong Kong Style French Toast. Staff are called lovely and friendly. The recurring caveats are a small, crammed room of five or six tables, steep prices for some, and a minimum spend. One group of four wanting to share a single dessert had to leave because of it, even though only two tables were occupied. One reviewer found the tofu pudding still liquid after the suggested 15 minute set and said 30 would work better. Another says a pudding that had not set was taken back and replaced with a fresh portion.
