About Woodhouse Gardens

Woodhouse Gardens is a pub on Medlock Rd in Manchester, set in Woodhouses Village near Daisy Nook Country Park, and it opens daily. The kitchen's salt and pepper "garden bucket" comes with fries, coleslaw, salad and a sweet chilli dip, and diners choose chicken or pulled pork. A salt and pepper burger with fries sits alongside it, and the menu also lists a Sunday roast and cottage pie. A specials board changes, and vegan options are available. The restaurant area is separate from the bar and has a window view over the beer garden. Drinkers can order cask ales from JW Lees Brewery at the bar.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often name the salt and pepper dishes, the burger with fries and the garden bucket of chicken or pulled pork with coleslaw and sweet chilli dip. Close behind, one reviewer praises the Sunday roast and cottage pie for flavour and portion size, and others single out a prawn cocktail starter and an old school cake as the cold pudding of the day. Staff are called lovely and friendly, and a family meal and an anniversary table both went well, though the restaurant and bar areas get very busy. The criticism is substantial. One lunch party describes mains arriving long after they sat down, no one taking drink orders, a starter sent back and returned on burnt toast, a dry mixed grill with gammon that turned out to be pork, and toilets that smelled. Another diner found the soup tasteless and the pie gravy congealed, with mash served in a separate bowl. The pizza is called small, and a few find prices high. After the delay complaint, the manager gave a discount per person.

“Average pub and restaurant with unreasonably expensive prices. £14.65 for a beer, a tiny Vino Spumante Prosecco and a pack of crisps.”

“There were 6 of us dining here for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Food was lovely,. The Waitress was very attentive polite and professional. Had a nicely situated table in the window area. Would definetly recommend here and will visit again. Thank you.”

“We had nice time. The place is pretty and the people are lovely. We got 3 courses for 21.50 which is great value. My prawn cocktail starter was lovely. The main and desert were fine but not world beating and the peppercorn sauce was just cream. The children’s play facilities were good for big kids but too big for our two year old.”

“Great food and lovely staff – it’s definitely one of our regular places because it’s well worth visiting more than once. I normally order the salt and pepper burger with fries, and it’s always absolutely lovely. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the recent menu change, there are still plenty of great options available, and the food tastes just as good. They also had an old school cake as the cold pudding of the day, and I can honestly say it was amazing. It should definitely be added to the main menu permanently! Overall, I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for tasty food, friendly service!”

“We came for lunch on BH Monday, and had terrible service, mediocre (at best) food, and the worst delay i have ever experienced in a restaurant. We sat down at 2.30, main meals were arriving between 4.15-4.30. The first person had finished their main before the last person’s had arrived, not really acceptable when there were only 6 of us. I had to send my starter back, which took a very long time to arrive and arrived on burnt toast. I ordered the crab/prawn on toast. My main, a Caesar salad, was mediocre and definitely not worth the £17 they are charging for it. My partner and brother ordered the mix grill, which was dry, chips over done and again not worth the money you would pay for it. The steak was cooked well, but the gammon was actually pork and was extremely dry. They were both waiting over 10 mins for the peppercorn sauce, so were waiting to eat. There was a sign saying ‘45 mins wait for food’ which, if it had been more accurate, i would have left and eaten elsewhere. Also, the toilets smelled and needed a clean. The whole time we were waiting for our food, no one came over to ask if we wanted drinks, meaning we had to queue at the bar every time we wanted a drink. When i raised this with the manager, she gave a £5 discount per person, which was 20%. After spending 2.5 hours here on the hottest day of the year, i can safely say i won’t be returning. If you are visiting, maybe place your order a week in advance!! Also the website needs updating on website.”
