About The Millgate Pub
The Millgate Pub is a family pub in Failsworth, Manchester, on Ashton Rd W. Its main draw for groups is a function room that can be hired for parties, with a hot or cold buffet and a resident DJ, which suits family and birthday gatherings. The kitchen runs a seasonal menu alongside pub dishes such as a steak and ale pie and a Steak Philly stack. Sunday lunch centres on a carvery of roasted meats served with seasonal vegetables and trimmings. The bar pours Guinness, including baby Guinness shots, and there is a fire for sitting by with a drink. Guests can either order at the bar or be served at the table.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the function room parties, praising the buffets, whether hot or cold, and the resident DJ at birthday celebrations, with staff described as helpful and going the extra mile. Meals draw close behind: a steak Philly stack called one of the best steak sandwiches one diner had eaten, a generous steak and ale pie, a cheese and onion pie, and the Father's Day carvery, with several noting food arrived hot and portions were great. One reviewer with allergies describes the staff double checking the order before payment, and another mentions well kept drinks. The main criticism comes from one visit where the fries and onion rings did not seem fresh, the chicken burger was bland, the cheese sauce lacked flavour, and the brownie was dry with tasteless cream, though the coleslaw and hot jalapeños were liked. That reviewer also found service a little slow and the pricing on the high side, while still calling the staff polite and friendly and hoping it was an off day.

“I’ve eaten here a few times and was really hoping to give this place 5 stars, as my previous visits have been excellent. Sadly, this visit was a little disappointing. The fries and onion rings didn’t seem fresh, and the chicken burger was quite bland. The cheese sauce also lacked flavour. On the plus side, the jalapeños were definitely hot 🔥, and the coleslaw was really tasty. The chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream the brownie was dry and the cream was Tasteless The service was a little slow, but the staff remained polite, friendly, and welcoming throughout. It’s a little on the pricey side, but this one experience wouldn’t put me off coming back. I’m hoping this was just an off day, as I’ve enjoyed my previous visits and would happily give them another chance.”
