Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the value, with cheap, generous meals and drinks bundled into the meal price. Diners name the Big Smoke burger, the Southern-fried chicken strips basket and the Whitby breaded scampi, described as massive, freshly prepared and fast. Desserts like apple crumble with ice cream and fresh fruit with ice cream also draw praise for huge servings, and breakfast is called great. Several find the staff friendly and the service quick. Ordering through the app divides opinion. Some like ordering whenever they are ready without a waiter hovering, while one diner who tried to pay cash at the bar was told to download the app, scan a QR code and enter bank card details. Crowding comes up repeatedly, with a packed, tight seating area and noise on busy days. One curry order arrived with naan as hard as cardboard, and the staff member was not interested in the complaint. Another reviewer notes the cushion in a comfortable booth keeps slipping away.

“The apple crumble with ice cream is amazing, but what a palava trying to order food here. I tried to pay for it at the bar with cash, and then to find somewhere to sit as it was very full there and noisy too and I didn't fancy eating while standing up, but I was told I had to download Wetherspoons app, scan a qr code and insert my bank card details in the app when paying. I asked staff is this secure, and was reassured yes, it is. If I ever do return, it'll be on a much quieter day!”

“Lovely building but the seating area is so packed and tight. It was very busy which can’t be controlled, but the seating area is quite small. Everything else was great otherwise”

“We went in for a drink after we’d had a meal elsewhere. After ordering one drink, my friend stepped outside. Who I assume was the manager came over to the table, to advise they would no longer be serving us as my friend supposedly stumbled on their way outside. I explained he had a visual impairment and if you spoke to him you would realise this and he could explain. I was advised that without proof we would not be served at all. I approached the manager after we had finished our dessert to express my disappointment as we had not intended to stay, I simply wanted to highlight that not all disabilities are visible and had she had a conversation with my friend, he could have explained his disability. However, I was brushed off and she walked away from me without allowing me to even have a conversation. She was rude and disrespectful. This is not the first time I’ve heard of problems with Wetherspoons and them expecting proof of a disability however this is the first time I’ve experienced it first hand and it’s disgraceful that someone should have to justify themselves. It should not be an expectation that if a person advises they have a disability, they are expected to prove it. Small minded and rude.”

“Stopped in for a bite with two friends, and it was a great experience as always! The value for money at Wetherspoon is hard to beat, especially with drinks, including craft cans, craft pints, and Irish stout on tap, bundled right into the meal price. We ordered the Big Smoke burger, the Southern-fried chicken strips basket, and the Whitby breaded scampi. The portions were massive, freshly prepared, and served remarkably fast. Being able to order through the app whenever you are ready is a game changer, allowing you to relax without a waiter hovering over your table. Finding a table for three of us was quick and smooth, and the pub atmosphere was lively and comfortable. Fantastic meal on a budget, we’ll definitely be back!”

“Nice place to start a night out! Cheap and cheerful. The chair cushion I'm sitting on slips away every now and then, but it's a comfortable little booth. The food was about what I expected, but overall, not bad.”
