About The Rat & Pigeon
The Rat & Pigeon is a pub in Manchester on a back street between Piccadilly and the Northern Quarter. The building dates to 1870 and reopened in 2024 as an independent live music venue across 3 floors. Two bars serve craft beer, keg, cask and cocktails, and the cask ales include Boddingtons. Upstairs has seating and space for gigs and live music, along with a pool table and dart boards. Live sports are shown on TV, including football matches upstairs. DJs play late at night, and a jukebox is also on site.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the bar staff, described as friendly, lovely and up for a chat, with one noting a bartender stayed unflustered through a sudden rush of customers. Drinks come next: a great pint of Boddies, very well kept cask ales, non branded beers, and crisps and scratchings. Live music is close behind, with gigs and a birthday lineup mentioned, along with sports on TV, including an FA Cup final watched upstairs. Upstairs also earns praise for a quirky pool table, serious dart boards, a Duke box the staff helped get going and a randomized music selection. On the downside, one reviewer found it quiet and dark on a hot afternoon with only one other customer, and another found no snacks available on a match day. A few visitors describe the bar staff pointing them to food nearby, including the sister pub The Badger, before they headed back for the evening.

“Well where do I start? It's a cool pub for cool youngsters and not so cool oldies like me. They sell some great non branded beers, always with a smile. Fantastic for live music, where you will find various member(s) of a soon to be famous band(s) both behind and in front of the bar. Great playlists and also live sports. What more would you want from your local? It's got everything”

“Great vibes and a wonderful local experience for a tourist. We stumbled upon this pub in an alley and glad we grabbed a pint here. Harry and Davey were great bartenders and fun to talk with. They gave us great recommendations for food around town and made our pub experience memorable. Chatted with some of the locals and loved it! I’d highly recommend this pub if you want a non tourist experience.”

“We recently found this amazing little pub down a side street just off the city centre. My husband wanted to find somewhere with Real Ales and we happened upon it after a search. They were celebrating their birthday and had some crazy acts lined up. Hot Chip & Antony Szmereik !!! We thought we'd go get some food and Mia & Hugo directed us to their sister pub The Badger then skipped back for an outstanding evening. 20/20”
