About Flok

Flok is a pub in Manchester at 5 Stevenson Square, set across two floors. Upstairs, the bar pours draught beer and cask ales, serves tapas and plays vinyl, with cocktails and spirits on offer, including G&T and mojitos. Raised booths sit among vintage, quirky decor, with furniture on the walls and blackboards. Board games are available to rent. Downstairs, a bottle shop stocks craft beer, and a bank vault room seats 6 to 8 by reservation, which suits small groups. Seating is limited, and the pub gets busy at peak hours.

Customer Review Summary

The main complaint is the draught offer. One reviewer found the beers repetitive, mostly hazy pale session ales, with only two casks on during a Monday lunchtime, and the kitchen had run out of fresh mint, so no mojitos. Another found the bar unstaffed on a Wednesday, waited a while and described unfriendly service, and a friend's clothing was stained by black paint on a chair while blackboards were being painted. A few note limited seating at peak hours, and one dislikes the single-use plastic cups outside.

“Visited here on Wednesday and was quite disappointed with the service. No staff behind the bar had to wait a while for someone to come out and be served and staff were quite unfriendly. Staff were painting the blackboards and there was black paint on one of the chairs which stained my friends clothing. Shame as have had good experiences here in the past”

“Lovely quirky bar. Had a decent pint and a amaretto coke. Shame there aren’t more seats as it gets busy during peak hours!”

“I can understand the need for plastic cups that will not break when your customers are enjoying beverages outside. But I was sad to see so many single use, plastic cups, being used by most patrons, and then discarded into the trash. Especially when to some customers, depending how we asked, we were able to get more durable plastic cups that seem to get reused by the bar. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, and over 95% of the plastic that we intentionally try to recycle, actually gets recycled. Rather it ends up in landfills, incinerators, in our waterways, or in our bodies via microplastics. I would love to see more consistency and communication from local restaurants, and cafés to help customers mitigate this issue. When we have limited options for how we drink a beer, for example, maybe it can help to at least start by offering a clear option. I would bet the most customers would want to order their beer in a reusable cup, rather than one that will get thrown away after one use. Is there a way you can articulate that option? Or invest more in the durable, unbreakable plastic cups, in lieu of the flimsy, single use plastic ones? Thank you for considering. And thank you for a wonderful bar experience. I appreciate you listening to my concerns about our current environmental crises and the ways that we can all work to chip away with them, rather than actively or passively contribute to them.”

“Nice bar with character, with decent selection of craft beer and some cocktails. The raised booths work really well and there is plenty of outdoor seating. The beers were too repetitive though, hazy pale session ales and some larger. Obviously they are needed, but it would be nice to have some variety. Only 2 of the casks were on (Monday lunchtime), which was a disappointment too. (One cask being Dunham Gold - which is brewed for strength not taste). They had run out of fresh mint, so no mojitos, meaning we went for G&T. Which with fresh lime, was very nice. Overall I would say, good bar but just needs a little more thought to the combination of the offer at the taps /pumps.”
