Quick info
About Hula
Hula is a 1950s-inspired Tiki bar in Manchester, at 11 Stevenson Square. Bar staff make cocktails with fire effects, and the drinks list also carries Neck Oil and an alcohol-free beer, White Knight. A fish tank sits at the front, and dance music plays as part of the night. Groups and hen parties can book drinks packages, which come with a separate area for the group, and a deposit is taken for hen party bookings. Bouncers work the door, and a bag policy rules out man bags.

Customer Review Summary
The door is the recurring complaint. Several reviewers describe bouncers who refused entry without a clear reason. One group was turned away at full capacity with no queue while others were let in, and one person was refused re-entry to collect a lost phone. Others call the atmosphere poor, say the music was not what was advertised, and find drinks expensive with no beers on tap. One reviewer says a hen do deposit was not returned. Yet another group found the bouncers friendly and felt safe, and the bar staff set the bar on fire at one point.

“Bouncers were racist towards me and my family, labelled us as being “agressive”. We were told we weren’t allowed in the club, when asked for a reason they WERE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE! When asked for a manager, got ignored. There was four of us and only one was allowed in, anyone guesses how that ONE PERSON was allowed in but we weren’t ?”

“Bouncers are absolutely disgraceful kicked me out for absolutely 0 reasoning lost my phone in the venue and he point blank refused to let me back in for my phone forcing me with no way home i was alone may I add. Thankfully I've been today and collected it. Wouldn't recommended what so ever not if you want to be bullied by bouncers. Bouncers are definitely the down fall of this place.”

“I visited the venue at 2:00 AM and was told by the bouncers that man bags weren’t allowed. Fair enough—we were told we could return later without it, which we respected. We came back at 4:00 AM without the bag, but were told the venue was at full capacity. There was no queue, and we waited for 30 minutes while at least 20 people left. There were only four of us, but we were still denied entry. The most disappointing part was the rude and dismissive attitude from the bouncer. As someone who works on doors myself, I understand following policy, but there’s no excuse for treating people with disrespect. After making us wait, he finally said “last entry is gone” and blamed the manager—despite never actually speaking to management. To make matters worse, just after we left, we saw him let in two of his mates. It felt like we were being messed around for no reason. If there are rules, that’s fine—just be honest and apply them fairly to everyone. Please make sure your door staff actually know the policies, stop blaming management when they’re not involved, and treat paying customers with basic respect. Even tho I come here on weekdays and never had the issue but please sort out your bouncers on weekend 🤗”
