Quick info
About Steelworks Tavern
Steelworks Tavern is a Manchester pub at 247-249 Gorton Ln, run by its landlord and landlady, who serve behind the bar themselves. The room is old-school, with no carpets or plush fittings, and a resident pub cat. Karaoke nights are held here, pool is played in the bar, and locals and regulars fill the room. Food is served, and dogs are welcome. The pub opens daily and sits close to the Monastery, so visitors stop in before or after events there.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers describe an old school boozer where the welcome from staff and regulars comes first, with several saying they were made to feel like family or were quickly drawn into a game of pool. Karaoke is the close second draw, with visitors praising the singing and a few getting up to perform themselves. Others point to the good prices, the pints, and the food, which one neighbouring regular says never disappoints. Reviewers also call it a pub from the 60's, one cautioning not to expect carpets or plush fittings. The one negative review calls it the worst pub they have been in, citing rude staff and clientele, without further detail. Visitors in town for a wedding, a candle light event at the Monastery, or a gig often came back for a second evening, and one reviewer's night was capped by the pub cat curling up beside them and purring.

“The food here never disappoints. I’ve been here plenty of times as it’s right next door. Staff are lovely, the pub is kept in a good and clean condition, never regretted a single meal here and the atmosphere is great 👍”

“Amazing atmosphere, vibes and people. Visiting from Canada we decided to check out this local pub near our accommodations based on other people's reviews. We are so happy we did because at the Steelworks Tavern we met some wonderful, hospitable and fascinating folks. After enjoying a couple pints and some high quality kareoke (by others), just to put the cherry on top, the sweet and affectionate Cat had to steal the show and my heart by curling up next to me and purring. A massive thank you to the landlords, staff and other patrons for a truly unforgettable experience. We will 100% be back and could not recommend this establishment highly enough!”
