About Chorlton Tap
Chorlton Tap is a pub in Manchester on Wilbraham Road, and it serves as the brewery tap for Wander Beyond Brewing, with a dedicated fridge of that brewery's beers. The bar runs four cask lines and sixteen keg lines, with cider alongside, and the drinks boards label which beers are vegan. Food comes from a woodfired outdoor kitchen run by Nora's Kitchen. The Sunday roast comes with cauliflower cheese, and a vegan roast with vegan Yorkshire puddings is offered for those avoiding meat. The pub also holds monthly tasting nights. Inside, there are two seating areas, one with music and one without.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise, with reviewers singling out a vegan roast with vegan Yorkshire puddings, the cauliflower cheese, a perfect portion size and reasonable prices. Close behind is the beer, with diners noting the cask and keg lines, the Wander Beyond Brewing taps, a Marble lime and coconut sour called quite exceptional, and a Quokka one drinker found very strong. A Thai-inspired tasting menu earned credit for its soft-shell crab and tilapia fish cake, though that reviewer found the plates beige and bare. The complaints are about service. One group of six waited far too long, was told the veggie roast items they had paid for had run out, and was not refunded on the spot, while other tables received cold dishes. Another reviewer says staff seem uninterested and the drinks selection has grown poor, and one visitor found only a single real ale left late on a Sunday. Most others call the staff friendly, and one notes there was no issue asking for extra gravy.

“Always used to love this place. It’s a bit crap now sadly. The staff are totally uninterested.Add to that the poor selection of drinks, an it’s a massive no these days”

“We visited The Chorlton Tap because my vegan friend had been keen to try one of their tasting menus for a while. Being vegan can still be limiting at times (thankfully not like the dark ages anymore), so when they offered a five-course tasting menu for £35, it felt like a great excuse to go. This was my first time visiting the venue and I really liked it a relaxed, welcoming pub atmosphere with genuinely friendly staff. Drinks are ordered at the bar, which suited us fine. I opted for a bottle of Chilean white wine to go with the meal, which came in at around £21 and was very drinkable. Food started arriving not long after our 7pm booking, which was ideal. My non-vegan tasting menu consisted of: Tilapia fish cake to start something I hadn’t tried before in fish-cake form. It was surprisingly meaty, with a great texture and very enjoyable. Pork skewers, which were tasty and nicely seasoned. Soft-shell crab, which was probably my favourite dish a good portion size, fragrant, and beautifully lemongrassy. Beef tenderloin, served with peanuts and a light broth, rich, comforting, and well cooked. Dessert, a coconut and dragon fruit parfait topped with a delicate chocolate filigree, which was refreshing rather than heavy. Flavour-wise, everything was really good — clearly Thai-inspired, well balanced, and enjoyable to eat. My main criticism, however, is presentation. All the dishes looked quite similar: very beige, similar sauces, and overall a bit bare. I found myself really craving some colour even just a pop of green to make the plates more visually exciting. My friend had the vegan equivalent throughout. She said everything tasted great, but even she admitted the presentation wasn’t doing the food any favours. The faux crab, in particular, looked fairly unappealing despite apparently tasting good. That said, context matters. The atmosphere was relaxed, the wine flowed nicely, the company was great, and for £35 for five courses, it’s genuinely hard to complain. The value alone makes it worth trying. One amusing detail worth mentioning: we were given a bucket filled with cutlery so guests could change their set between courses if they wanted. My friend sensibly kept hold of the same set throughout, while I kept leaving mine on the plate meaning it was taken away every time. Combined with the fact that the napkins were wrapped so tightly around the cutlery that we could barely get them undone (honestly, it felt like they’d been sealed with industrial glue), I somehow ended up with a growing pile of tightly wrapped napkins by the end that looked like I’d collected five cigars. We couldn’t help but laugh about it. Overall A really enjoyable evening with tasty food, friendly staff, and excellent value for money. While the presentation could definitely use some work, the flavours were solid and the setting was comfortable and welcoming. I’d happily go back and would definitely try another tasting menu in the future.”

“Amazing Sunday roast, especially the cauliflower cheese. No issue asking for extra gravy either. Will be back!”

“Waited an hour and ten minutes with my group of 6. They came over to say that “Yorkshires were just holding us up” before coming back and saying they didn’t have the veggie roast items that we paid for. I then looked at previous reviews and it’s clear that the place is consistently bad with delivering meals in a timely fashion. They wouldn’t refund us on the spot and took our emails on the back of a receipt paper (I don’t see them sending the refund back in a timely manner). The food looked good but unfortunately the service is not good enough and it was incredibly unprofessional. Constructive criticism, if you run out of items, make sure your inform your booked customers that has just ran out and not wait over a hour. Also add more kitchen staff. We were not the only table waiting this amount of time and other table dishes got sent out cold.”
