  “Visited today and was thrilled to see that the Nutless Roast, served with stuffing, was marked as vegan and was on the Sunday Roast menu, which has a subheading saying 'All served with Yorkshire pudding, fresh mixed vegetables, cauliflower cheese, braised red cabbage, roast potatoes and gravy'. My husband ordered the chicken roast and I ordered the vegan roast - the staff member who took the order explained that I wouldn't get the cauliflower cheese, as this wasn't vegan and I said that was fine. We took our drinks to our table and then 5 minutes later the chef came out and said that he could only do the vegan roast with steamed vegetables, new potatoes and vegan gravy. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, particularly when my food came out without even the stuffing it was advertised with! Our food was nicely cooked and the pub, which is right in the middle of the New forest, is beautiful. But just don't offer a vegan roast if you can't do one, please!”

  “What friendly staff. We walked our dogs here. Dog bowls with fresh water and ice in garden. Didnt eat here but the food we saw come out looked amazing. We will be bk”

  “13th July 2026. We were given the recommendation where four different family groups could meet up, which was child & dog friendly, food was good and staff were welcoming & friendly. Walter Tyrell ticked every box & exceeded our expectations. Helpfully, staff swopped our indoor booking for a table in the garden, under the shade of the trees & it was perfect. Our waitress could not have been more friendly, facilitative and helpful. Sorry i didnt get your name, but you know who you are & a massive thank you.xx”

  “Visited The a Sir Walter Tyrrell a few weeks back with my Wife and kids. Lovely spacious pub with superb outdoor space. Food was spot on, we passed by during lunch and went for their large platter. Excellent outdoor space for the kids, Landlady was kind enough to let our kids play in their enclosed garden section which had a load of toys to occupy our little ones. We then went out to the bigger garden space which had a adventure park as such which again the kids loved. Landlady was extremely friendly and inviting from first steeping into her pub. Highly recommend The sir Walter Tyrrell if you are in the area. We will 100% return when we next visit New forest”

  “Make sure you arrive hungry as the portions are quite large! The quality of the food is amazing and the staff are super friendly. We enjoyed the country music that was playing while we eat lunch and soaked up the gorgeous forest atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be returning.”

  “Amazing pub! This pub has everything….plenty of room, dog friendly, great food, pool table, kids play park, camping field, sun deck, forest views, huge garden, outside speakers, live music……… But above all else, the staff (a family) are so welcoming it feels like home. Visit this pub, and you’ll never want to leave. 🤩🥰”

  “A damp spring Friday may not be te best time to appreciate the New Forest, but there was definitely a warm welcome at the Sir Walter Tyrrell as well as a good selection of beers and foods. We were a party of six with a number of food allergies in the party, with the exception of desert, for which there had been a delivery issue that meant items weren't available, everyone was well catered for. The portions were good and I can really recommend the specials board, which over half the party took an option from. Not only had I never tried pork cakes, with poached eggs and blackpudding, I'd never previously heard of them. It's a blend of flavours that works well and as with the rest of the orders, the portions were generous. Being critical, the coffee cake could have been a bit stronger, but still made a good desert, though it looks like the apple and fruit crumble with custard was a better choice. Named after the knight that "accidently" killed King William Rufus just down the road, this ones definitely worth a visit.”

  “I recently visited the Sir Walter Tyrrell pub in the New Forest and had a really lovely experience. The location is stunning — surrounded by open heathland, wild ponies, and beautiful views that really capture the charm of the area. The atmosphere inside was cosy and relaxed, with really interesting decorations that give the place a lot of character. We especially loved that there were card games available — it made the visit feel even more fun and laid-back, perfect for spending quality time together. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavour — just what you want after a walk in the forest. It’s an ideal spot to unwind, whether you’re popping in for a drink or sitting down for a proper meal. I’d happily return and would definitely recommend it to anyone exploring the New Forest.”

  “A fantastic forest location, with beautiful views of the surrounding forest, with easy access from the A31 from Ringwood or Bournemouth, and very friendly owners and staff. Traditional country pub with food prepared and cooked on site. Really nice area for sitting outside and a kids play area. There is also a campsite behind. For food, we are plant-based (vegan), and the cheerful young chef (Lee) catered for us very nicely. The rest of the menu looked good, and people around us enjoyed their fish dishes. We went in the evening mid-week in August and it was quiet, and very relaxed. Intermittent phone signal, if important. Great for a forest walk and pub visit!”
