About The Royal Oak North Gorley
The Royal Oak North Gorley is a thatched pub on Ringwood Rd in Fordingbridge, set opposite North Gorley Common in the New Forest, where ponies pass by outside. Dogs are welcome, and a dog menu and water bowls are provided for visiting animals. The kitchen cooks traditional pub dishes alongside seafood, with a catch of the day (seabream) and lamb shank among the named plates. Sunday roast is served with beef as one of the roasts, and gluten-free options are catered for. Reservations are required, and tables are booked in dedicated time slots.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise, with reviewers calling the beef roast excellent quality and one naming it the best they have found in the area. Close behind are the seafood and starters: a Scotch egg, salmon and crayfish, smoked trout and crayfish bruschetta, mussels, and seabream as the catch of the day. Others single out a lamb shank with meat falling off the bone, ribs that melted, and generous portions, with desserts and a coffee affogato also mentioned. The thatched building, garden seating and ponies passing outside add to the appeal, and diners describe friendly staff and a warm welcome from the owner. The recurring caveat is inconsistent floor service. One party saw staff mix up roast orders and drinks and seem unsure of table numbers on a packed day, while another table was not offered the specials menu or water jugs that other tables received. One reviewer also found the inside compact and cramped. Dogs are welcomed with their own water bowl, and one visitor found a doggy menu.

“Incredible roast in a stunning New Forest location — just needs a bit of service polish! We recently visited The Royal Oak in North Gorley and were completely blown away. Located in a gorgeous setting right opposite North Gorley Common, this vintage pub has a quaint, warm, and exceptionally clean atmosphere. Hands down, this is the best Sunday roast we have found in the area (and we have tried a lot!). It was absolute perfection. I also really appreciated their booking system, which uses dedicated time slots rather than a stressful first-come, first-served rush. The main greeter welcoming everyone was lovely, but the rest of the floor service felt a bit discombobulated. Some staff seemed unsure of table numbers, mixing up roast orders and drinks. However, the place was packed to the brim from start to finish, so a few crossed wires are completely understandable on such a busy day. We didn't venture around the pub too much as we had the dogs with us, but it did feel quite compact and cramped inside, and the toilets are on the smaller side (though kept very clean). Despite the minor hiccups with front-of-house service, the sheer quality of the food more than redeemed everything. If you're looking for a dog-friendly spot with top-tier food and a cozy vibe, this is a must-visit. We will definitely be back!”

“Just had a lovely meal here, the ribs just melted and were very tasty, the mussels were delicious. They cater for gluten free which was great. The pub is lovely in a beautiful spot, the staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.”

“We booked this pub for a meal for our 50th wedding anniversary as we were in the New Forest for a few days break. We had a lovely welcome from the owner, the food was lovely, the atmosphere was brillant as was the service. The owner talked to every customer making them welcome. Dog friendly”

“A lovely country pub with garden seating front and back. Easy to park. A wonderful choice of food on the menu and lovely to see something a little bit different . We had the smoked trout and crayfish and tomato and feta bruschetta for a light lunch. Service was a little inconsistent, other tables offered a specials menu and water bought to table in jugs whereas we weren’t offered either. Other than that highly recommend. Dogs welcome”
