About The Four Horseshoes
On Nursling St in Southampton, The Four Horseshoes operates as a gastropub with a menu spanning 36 dishes. A heated conservatory extends the garden seating area, giving diners a covered space to eat outdoors regardless of weather. The kitchen's starters include Roasted Chorizo Bites and Charred Flatbread with Chickpea and Tahini Houmous, alongside a rotating Soup of the Day. Vegetarian and gluten free options run through the menu, and a vegetarian roast is offered alongside the standard Sunday roast, which often requires booking ahead. Table service brings drinks and menus to the table rather than counter ordering. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair accessible, and dogs are welcome throughout. Reservations are recommended given the daily opening pattern. Live music has featured during Sunday service, and a large car park across the road serves customers arriving by car.

“Delicious vegan roast, will definitely visit again! Large nut roast with lots of veggies. Atmosphere was chill and decor inside the pub is lovely.”

“It took a while to come but great food and staff. Lovely tent space out in the gardens. Would be perfect if the weather was sunny and hot. Would have a party here if I was popular enough :)”

“What a lovely pub with great food. You do pay a bit over average but it is worth it and all the food tasted amazing. We had the roast dinner which I must say was cooked to perfection, the gravy was very very tasty! They had a great range of gluten free options which was a highlight for myself. We would definitely visit again. 🙂”

“Is more of a restaurant than a pub with now a large proportion of it put over to meals. This must have been a success as on Sundays you do need to book to get a table. The food is of good quality and presented well, though this is reflected in a higher than average price. The generosity of sides is only minimal however. The pub has done its best with its location as it can, with a genous car park and outside seating, though there is some noise being next the m27. Overall I would recommend this pub for food but need to try a few different meals before saying it is fully worth it's costs (the steak for example was smallish, 7 chips, a mushroom and a tomato for £33?”

Customer Review Summary
The chicken supreme draws repeated praise, reviewers describing it with dauphinoise potatoes and leek sauce as "delicious" and one returning for it twice, calling it "so tasty." Close behind, the Sunday roast earns mentions for its gravy and gluten free options, while other standouts include the crème brulé with berry sorbet, the king prawn linguini, and a birthday party's belly pork and tiramisu. Several note the pub reads more as a restaurant now, with good quality food reflected in higher prices, one citing a steak served with minimal sides for a notable cost, and portions on sides described as minimal by another. Service draws mixed but mostly positive reports: many call staff attentive and accommodating even for large groups of 25 or more, though a few describe waits for drinks, a lost order, or a waiter who "seemed fed up." One reviewer's Sunday visit was disrupted by loud live singing that made conversation difficult, including for a family member with hearing difficulties. A large birthday party of over two dozen reported the manager and staff going out of their way to accommodate everyone smoothly.
