Quick info
About The White Hart
The White Hart is a pub on Old Romsey Rd in Southampton, set up as a traditional New Forest pub with the bar at its centre. Open fires, bookcases, rugs, prints and oak floors fill the main rooms, while a garden room extension adds plants, flowers and daylight. The pub runs without wide-screen television, gaming machines or intrusive music, so conversation carries the room. Food includes a Sunday roast with lamb, beef or pork and a homemade Yorkshire pudding, and chicken wings also feature on the menu. A private dining room is available for groups. Plenty of parking is available.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most enthusiasm. One diner calls the lamb melt in your mouth, and another praises pink beef, thick slices of pork, a massive homemade Yorkshire pudding and crispy roast potatoes, all piping hot. Chicken wings come close behind, paired in one review with the squid starter, while others single out the steak, the duck leg, the salmon linguine and the ice-cream. Reviewers describe friendly, attentive service, with one server praised for a warm welcome across repeat visits, and a party of 16 celebrating birthdays said nothing was too much trouble. The large garden and plenty of space for kids to play also get mentions, and the atmosphere is called lovely and vibing. The one real complaint concerns portion size. A diner found the chicken and ham pie nicely cooked but light on vegetables, and said his wife's meal of a little bowl of piccalilli and an inch long sausage roll felt more like an appetiser, leaving her glad she ordered chips as well.

“We have just celebrated my husband's 80th birthday party, my daughters birthday and my grandsons 20th birthday yesterday. We have had the best experience ever at The White Hart. The staff team were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome even though we were a party of 16!! Exceptional food, diligent service and the staff fabulous. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a truly memorable occasion for us all. We will be back again soon.”

“Great pub, amazing service and genuinely just such a lovely experience! Sol was fab, so friendly when we popped in for a pint and then served us for food a few days later and kept up the great service. Home away from home while on holiday! Highly recommend to everyone, great vegan options and great range of food options and pints.”

“A group of us came here with our young kids for a bite to eat in the evening - it was just what we needed, such a lovely find. The staff are friendly, the menu is good and there's plenty of space for the kids to play. The facilities are good, plenty of parking and cost is reasonable. If we're down this part of the UK again, we're popping in again.”

“I had chicken and ham pie nicely cooked even the veg. Though not a lot of it . As lots of pubs now just poor it on the plate from the packet. The wife had what we thought was a meal but more like a appetiser little bowl of piccalilli and inch long sausage roll glad she ordered chips as well.”

“Lovely food and a really lovely location with plenty of parking. Even though we arrived after 6 for our Sunday Roast, it was still great and oh my god, the lamb was unbelievable, melt in your mouth . very reasonably priced too. 5 stars all the way.”

“The White Hart is a traditional New Forest pub with a bar right at the heart of things. Throughout the pub you will find all those elements that make the British pub feel special ‚Äì open fires, bookcases, good old furniture, prints, rugs and oak floors, but there is also a lighter touch with a new garden room extension, plenty of plants and flowers and lots of daylight. You'll find a really buzzy, chatty and civilised atmosphere, with an interesting mix of locals and visitors all rubbing along happily without the blight of wide-screen television, gaming machines or intrusive music.”
