About The Rockingham Arms
The Rockingham Arms is a pub in Romsey on Canada Rd, with a beer garden at the back that backs onto the common and is partly a car park. Dogs are welcome, and a dog-friendly area inside the pub gives owners a place to sit with them. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast of roast beef with all the trimmings and Yorkshire pudding, along with fish and chips and a soup of the day. Diners can also sit and eat in the bar area. On Mother's Day, the pub serves a set menu only.

Customer Review Summary
Roast beef draws the most praise, with the Sunday roast called delicious and one reviewer naming it the best in a pub, though the Yorkshire pudding struck one as too dry. Close behind are crispy fish and chips, a burger, carrot soup, tender belly pork with crackling and a glass of Fleurie from a good wine list. Staff are mostly called friendly, and the setting backing onto the common is stunning, though the beer garden is partly car park. Complaints are about detail and value: one found the steak tough and the cod loin bland, another was not told of a Mother's Day set menu when booking and had one fatty cut of beef replaced quickly, and one saw staff chatting at the bar and had to go there for the bill. One table found the lattes and hot chocolates like dish water, and staff took them off the bill.

“I only went here for one drink but was given a warm welcome by the staff and locals alike. It's spacious inside with comfy seats and low lighting. The back beer garden is let down a bit though by it being part car park. Shame because the pub backs onto the common, which is stunning. The glass of Fleurie I had was delicious. Nice to find a pub with a good wine list.”

“Lovely meal with friends. Generous portions, friendly staff but please sort your coffee machine out. The lattes were like dish water as were the hot chocolates so could not drink them and staff agreed to take these off the bill.”

“Excellent venue and Sunday roast! Staff need to be more attentive. We were not asked if the food was all ok or if we wanted anymore drinks (which we did). Staff were chatting amongst themselves a lot at the bar. Because of this we had to go to the bar to ask for the bill. Despite these small negative points we would return and recommend to others. The roast was delicious, thank you!”

“Beautiful setting and lovely building. Staff very good. Courteous, polite and friendly. I'm afraid the food was very average. For main courses that are nearly £30 you have reasonably high expectations. Steak was a bit tough, and the cod loin was just bland. I was surprised how empty it felt considering it was half term holidays and there is also a caravan park nearby. Great place to sit outside with a drink.”

“We visited the Rockingham Arms for lunch this Easter Sunday, and despite the holiday rush, it was a fantastic experience. The pub was absolutely buzzing with families, creating a warm and lively atmosphere that felt quintessentially British. The location is stunning—a beautiful countryside setting with a vast open space right behind the building. It’s clearly a favorite for locals and visitors alike, as we saw plenty of people taking their dogs for a post-lunch stroll in the fresh air. Even though the place was packed and we hadn’t made a reservation, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. They were incredibly friendly and managed to find us a spot to eat at the bar, which we really appreciated. As for the food, it was delicious. We started with the soup of the day, a flavorful and comforting carrot soup. For mains, we had the classic fish and chips, which was perfectly crispy, and a traditional roast beef that was tender and served with all the trimmings. If you’re looking for a welcoming country pub with great service and even better food, the Rockingham Arms is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back (with a booking next time!).”
