About The Wheatsheaf Inn

On Brand Hill in Loughborough, The Wheatsheaf Inn is a pub with a restaurant, set in a historic building with many rooms and open fires. The kitchen turns out a Stilton beef burger with a beef patty and salad, and game pie made with partridge, pheasant and rabbit is offered as a special. Sunday roast is served as well, alongside sandwiches and bistro-style plates. Cask beer is poured at the bar for those who come for a drink rather than a meal. Dogs are welcome. Private meals can be booked for those who want a table set aside for a group.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the Sunday roast, with one calling it the best they have had in the UK, and the signature Stilton beef burger comes up close behind as delicious, with plenty of cheese and a big patty. Also singled out are the crispy squid, a game pie of partridge, pheasant and rabbit, and a rich leek and potato soup. The Charnwood Vixen was described as excellent and well kept. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and reviewers mention outdoor tables, a conservatory and warm fires inside. A few found the food less consistent: one said the steak and ale pie was mostly mushroom with little beef, the tomato soup came with tasteless bread, the Blue Moon tasted of detergent and the crumble lacked flavour. Another found the grilled pork chop dry, and a diner who asked for a medium steak received it more well-done. One couple booked a private wedding meal at short notice, and the team handled it with ease.

“Usual warm friendly welcome from all the team and especially our good friend JP! Excellent service, delicious food and just a wonderful place to enjoy Sunday lunch with Mum, and especially not having to do any preparation, cooking and clearing up! Lots of fun and happy memories of being a regular 30 years ago and all the friends made along the way. Really looking forward to visiting again next week for a get-together with old family friends.”

“My grilled pork chop texture was quite dry ,taste less but it nice with salad along the side and Parmenter potatoes.”

“We went on a Saturday lunchtime and were seated quickly(we pre-booked) by friendly happy staff. The food was good although the steak was more well-done than the medium I asked for. The staff were attentive and checked several times that everything was okay. Parking is good, location is good, food is good, staff are good, we will go again.”

“We had the most stunning day at the Wheatsheaf. We booked a private meal after an intimate wedding service, the Wheatsheaf and Cerise were a dream to work with - they made the day so easy and they couldn't do enough for us to make the day special. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was so relaxed, the attention to detail phenomenal. We booked the ceremony with very short notice and we were worried that we wouldn't find anywhere able to host a meal. We are so, so happy that we were able to book the Wheatsheaf - we throughly recommend them and we can't wait to come back in the future and reminisce about such a wonderful day. A HUGE thank you! x”

“Service was fast and friendly which made the experience quite pleasant. However the food really let this place down. The tomato soup was refreshing, but it came with non-tasted bread and butter for some reason? The steak and ale pie was 90% mushroom and 10% beef, which really hurt the texture. The blue moon I ordered tasted mainly of detergent (dirty pipes, bottom of barrel?). To top it off you could not tell what the crumble was without asking as it was so without much flavour or sweetness.. Nothing was inedible, nothing was tasty either..”
