Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the setting and the friendly table service, with the garden and a dog-friendly Sunday lunch outdoors singled out as pleasant. Several praise the food, naming crab cake, pate, fillet steak, salmon, sticky toffee pudding, brownie, slow cooked beef with mash and a berry crumble with custard, plus excellent coffee. Close behind, the sticky sharing platter earns praise for its chorizo, Korean chicken skewers and peppers. The recurring complaint is value and pace. One diner found the roast turkey very tasty but stingy on meat, another called the mac and cheese the smallest portion they had seen, and others describe lukewarm or stone cold dishes, slow service and pricey salad and beer. One lunch saw starters arrive after a long wait, with under cooked calamari and pate served with only a slice of bread. Chips paid for never arrived, and the manager refunded those chips and one starter.

“The Badgers Sett is a lovely place to be good choice of drinks and excellent coffee. We had a delicious meal slow cooked beef, mash with vegetables and berry crumble with custard for dessert good wholesome food. Finished off with a liquor coffee. Our waitress Billie was friendly and efficient and made us feel looked after.”

“We stopped here for some breakfast halfway round a 12k walk, we arrived here just as they opened it was 10:00am on a Sunday morning! The staff are friendly and the food was cooked to a good standard 👍”

“Went here yesterday for a Sunday lunch. Its such a nice location and setting. Dog friendly. We sat outside and it was very pleasant. Had the roast turkey meal. Very tasty. All very nice but they are so stingy with the meat element. Hardly any at all really. For £20.95 I would expect a bit more! Otherwise very good.”

“After getting stuck in a torrential downpour, we were greeted by the manager and welcomed in and shown to a seat. We ordered the sticky sharing platter, garlic prawns, mac and cheese, chips, and rocket and tenderstem salad. Overall we enjoyed our meal but some aspects of the food didn’t meet the same mark as others. On the platter the chorizo, Korean chicken skewers and peppers were all 10/10. The honey chicken was missing more chicken, the ribs were missing rib meat (still really tasty). The rest of the meal, the prawns and salad we would highly recommend but the mac and cheese was the smallest portion we have ever seen, especially for the price.”

“The place looks really nice and is genuinely pleasant in the gardens on a warm night. Unfortunately, food was below average, the service was slow and disorderly (dishes didn’t come out together, and one dish was stone cold). The prices do not represent good value - much better options around the area. I wouldn’t come back.”
