About Wright brothers SOUTH KENSINGTON

Wright brothers SOUTH KENSINGTON is a seafood restaurant and oyster bar at 56A Old Brompton Rd in London. The kitchen shucks oysters to order from a selection of UK and French varieties, and serves them with sauce, lemon and Tabasco. A daily oyster happy hour overlaps with the cocktail happy hour, so shellfish and drinks can be ordered together at the reduced rate. Beyond the oysters, the menu includes fish and chips and bavette steak, with soda bread and croquettes on the side list. The restaurant is small, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Happy hour oysters are the main draw for most reviewers, with one party sharing three dozen among three and another ordering forty. Diners call them fresh and delicious, one notes they are shucked to order from a UK and French selection, and one finds them small. Close behind are the scallops, which one reviewer calls the highlight, along with bavette steak, tiger prawns and cocktails. The margaritas and a Bloody Mary get individual praise. Service is repeatedly described as friendly and warm, and the room as cozy. The criticisms are specific. One reviewer found the fish soup brown and blended, tasting nothing like fish, with a slight curry flavour. Another found the crab linguine a small portion, and a few call the drinks and chips expensive. One says the seafood was not the best they have had, and another felt the playlist did not suit the mermaid bar look. One diner celebrating a birthday was brought a little truffle dessert.

“Absolutely loved our experience! The food was incredible, but the scallops were definitely the highlight, absolutely melt-in-your-mouth amazing! The margaritas were a solid 10/10, and the service was impeccable. Juan really made all the difference, so friendly, attentive and welcoming throughout the evening. Highly recommend this place and I’ll definitely be coming back!”

“Wright brothers never disappoints, we love to come here on a warm summer day! Today we had the £1 a pop oysters along with some prawns and white wine. Great food, great service and will definitely be coming again”

“It was a great experience in this restaurant. This is my very very first time trying fresh oysters and i decided to go here for famous 1£ oysters. I didn’t have much expectation but it actually tasted better than i thought. We order 40 oysters in total and one fish n chips, which is also nice though i found it quite expensive compare to other place. The restaurant was pretty small but has good vibe. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Overall, would i come back again? Definitely for the oyster yummyyy (I knew about this restaurant from the Oyster girl and this was the first place that come to my mind when i visit London)”

“Came in for the “£1 a pop oyster happy hour” (!!!) and stayed for the outstanding cocktails and bavette steak. Service was excellent, food was fresh, cleanly presented, and delicious. The restaurant itself has a lovely French bistro meets coastal seafood bar vibe - definitely recommend for your next catch up with a friend or date over wine and oysters.”

“Had a fantastic time at the mermaid bar for the £1 a pop oysters. Treated ourselves to some scallops, tiger prawns, and a bavette steak. Lovely staff, dog friendly, the oyster happy hour coincided with the cocktail happy hour. I'd say that it's not 'the best' seafood I've had in my life, but I didn't pay prices that suggested it would be! Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to get their oyster fix in. The playlist could do with a bit of work though 😂 didn't feel like it matched the aesthetic of the mermaid bar.”
