Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the John Dory with potato, agretti and anchovy as the standout, calling it flawless and beautifully executed, with the rabbit ragu tagliatelle and dover sole also earning repeated praise for clean, seasonal flavours. Starters like the fried feta with honey and chilli, Cuore del Vesuvio tomatoes with coco beans and basil, and the chilled tomato soup are frequently described as fresh and vibrant, while the ricotta almond olive oil cake and tiramisu close meals on a high note. Several highlight the extensive wine list and thoughtful pairings. A few note uncomfortable seating as the main trade-off, and one reviewer reports a warm welcome with jackets taken while waiting for a table.

Perfect location for a pre-show dinner We went to see Shadowland at the Aldwych Theatre and after reading all the positive reviews selected Toklas. …

Toklas exceeded every expectation and delivered one of the most memorable meals I've had in London. We started with fried feta with honey and chilli, Cuore del Vesuvio tomatoes with coco beans and basil, asparagus with mayonnaise, and a chilled tomato soup. Every single starter was fresh, vibrant and beautifully executed. The kind of opening to a meal that makes you excited for what comes next. For mains we had the John Dory with potato, agretti and anchovy, and the lamb with freekeh, labneh and mint, accompanied by tomato and onion salads on the side. If I had to pick a favorite of the entire meal it would be the John Dory, the agretti was a wonderful pairing and the whole dish just sang. That said, everything from start to finish was flawless and I genuinely could not find a single fault. We ended with the tiramisu and an espresso, the perfect way to close out a perfect meal. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful with a wonderful terrace that adds to the overall charm of the experience. I would go back without hesitation and honestly the hardest part was leaving knowing there were so many other dishes on the menu I still want to try. Toklas is a gem and I cannot recommend it highly enough!

A great place for clean flavours that let the seasonal produce do the heavy lifting. We thoroughly enjoyed the custardy-crispy farinata and the spring-lemony casoncelli. We absolutely continue to dream of the ricotta almond olive oil cake. …

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
