About Eat Tokyo
Eat Tokyo is a Japanese restaurant in London at 27 Catherine St, run as the British branch of a Japanese casual dining chain. The menu is so large that it reads like a booklet, so the choice runs well beyond a single page of sushi. Bento boxes cover the set-meal side, oyakodon is a rice-bowl option, and a sashimi boat suits a table ordering raw fish to share. Traditional Japanese drinks are served alongside the food. Queues build at meal times, and groups in particular should expect a wait for a table.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to Eat Tokyo mainly for affordable, filling Japanese food from a menu several compare to a booklet, with the oyakodon, sushi bento, dragon roll and pumpkin croquettes singled out. Close behind are the bento boxes, the tuna side and crisp tempura, with one reviewer saying the food tasted authentic to a Japanese friend. Value is the most repeated theme, though one longtime regular says menu prices jumped sharply after the service charge was folded in, citing a sashimi boat that rose noticeably in a month. Service divides opinion. Some call staff friendly and fast despite the crowds, while others describe a seat given away after a short delay, a bill delivered the moment plates were cleared, and long queues at mealtimes. The most detailed complaint involved food arriving at staggered intervals, a forgotten sushi side, and no compensation offered, so the diner declined the service charge. One reviewer found the pork tough.

“We have been coming here for years, but the menu prices have recently jumped 20% or more! Having spoken to their manager, Minto - this was justified as the service charge of 12.5% was taken off and absorbed into the menu’s prices…. But from the looks of it, by almost 2 times? Food quality stays the same, food portion stays the same… but food prices have just become ridiculously expensive, on par with a more upmarket japanese shop. An example, their sashimi boat has gone up from £46 to £57.40, a rise of 24.78% in the span of a month. I personally think it’s best to eat at a more polished japanese shop, cheap and cheerful, this shop is no longer”

“Eat Tokyo is really a good chain if you want to look for Japanese food whilst not destroying your wallet. Their menu is like a booklet, showing how much choices you get in terms of dish. The waiting can be quite long, we waited easily 30 min as a group of 6. Bentos were so delicious and their dragon roll was so good. Highly recommend their pumpkin croquettes too ☺️”

“I visited Eat Tokyo with my Japanese friend, and we both had a great experience. The food was delicious, the customer service was friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable. My friend, who is Japanese, said the food was very authentic and tasted just like back home, which made the experience even more special. If you're looking for authentic Japanese food that's also budget-friendly, I highly recommend Eat Tokyo!”

“The food was amazing and really delicious, sadly this was let down by the serving staff who took other peoples orders who came in after us and then delivers our food in 15 minute intervals so my friend had nearly finished eating by the time I received mine although most other tables received their food together we were not alone in this frustrations. They also forgot to bring a side order of sushi which I asked if I could have that as take away instead, 20 mins later I had a take away box and two additional servings were brought to the table while we were trying to pay, which led to a discussion about what was ordered and being questioned. No reparation’s were offered by the restaurant and I refused to pay the service charge for the first time in my life and I will not be going back to this one again. Luckily there are other eat Tokyo restaurants which I hope are better than this one.”

“My go-to affordable Japanese food in London! Wide variety of choices, I have never seen a thicker menu than this restaurant! Food is great, portions are big and prices are reasonable. Long queues during meal time, advisable to go early to beat the queues. Multiple outlets across London too!”
