About Fuwa Fuwa Café

Fuwa Fuwa Café is a pancake restaurant in London at 57A Dean St, opened as the UK's first store dedicated to Japanese soufflé pancakes. Those pancakes are jiggly and come in flavours including Biscoff, pistachio and salted egg, topped with cream and fresh fruit such as strawberries. A list of teas and lattes sits alongside them for anyone who wants a drink with their order. Orders are placed at the till. The sitting area is small and plain, with benches and tables, so seats can fill up. An allergy information sign is posted at the till.

Customer Review Summary

The criticism centers on flavour, space and value. One reviewer found the chocolate-covered pancakes bland, better looking than tasting, and another called the Uji Matcha Latte sad green water that tasted nothing like the matcha they knew from Uji. The room is a plain white space with uncomfortable benches, tight seating and noise, and one notes there are no customer toilets. Another felt the price did not match pancakes served in a takeaway box with flimsy wooden spoons.

“This place was actually recommended by my daughter (15) and it didn't disappoint. The pancakes tasted amazing and very filling. The staff were great too! I went my 9yr old daughter and we chose the Biscoff and Honeycomb pancakes with chocolate, 😋! We didn't have to wait long for our order. Only downside was the size of the sitting area, which was quite small.”

“Not overhyped at all!! The pancakes were proper delicious, and super soft and airy in a great way! I had the salted caramel butter with cream (firm, sweet and perfect cream!!!) and my mum chose the blueberry cheesecake (?? I'm not sure now, but a deconstructed cheesecake flavour), I tried a bite and would have been jelous of her choice if not for how good my own was. Not too sweet but definitely a treat treat.”

“Food: 4/5 The Soufflé pancakes were good, not out of the world delicious but tasty nonetheless. The fruits were fresh and sweet, and the pancakes were jiggly and fluffy which was perfect. The Peach Green tea was really good at quenching my thirst on a hot day, and I loved it. However, the Uji Matcha Latte was a disaster to say the least. I love Matcha so much and have flew to Uji in Japan specially for their matcha and this tastes nothing like it. It was just sad green water with an earthy taste. I wish the pancakes didn't come in a takeaway box and given flimsy wooden spoons. The service was alright. The people working there weren't the friendliest so I gave it a "It's OK". The atmosphere was alright as well. Not much decor and was just a plain white room. Overall for the price point it was not that great. I would understand the price if the dishes were presented on a plate with metal spoons and with cuter decor but sadly it wasn't :(”

“We tried both the pistachio and Lotus Biscoff soufflé pancakes and they were incredible. Light, fluffy and packed with flavour without feeling too heavy. They practically melted in your mouth. The pistachio was rich and indulgent, while the Lotus Biscoff offered the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch. A unique dessert experience that completely lived up to the hype and one I’d happily return for whenever I’m in the area.”

“I wanted to visit Fuwa Fuwa after seeing the pancakes online and I was so excited to try them because the pancakes looked amazing, and the location is very convenient. The staff were friendly, and the service was quick. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to its appearance. The pancakes were covered generously in chocolate, but they lacked flavour and tasted surprisingly bland. They looked much better than they actually tasted, which was quite disappointing. The café itself is quite simple inside and lacked the cosy atmosphere. The sitting benches were a bit uncomfortable. Another downside was the absence of customer toilets, which was inconvenient, especially if you're planning to sit in and enjoy your food. Overall, while the service was good and the presentation was impressive, the food didn't meet our expectations. With more flavour and a more inviting atmosphere, this café could offer a much better experience.”
