About ZIMA Soho Restaurant
ZIMA Soho Restaurant is an Eastern European restaurant in London, on Frith St, serving Slavic cooking with a modern twist. Pelmeni, the Siberian dumplings, arrive with broth and sour cream, and the khachapuri comes with cheese and adjika sauce. Nastoyka, a series of infused vodkas, sits on the drinks list alongside the food, which gives vodka drinkers something to order beyond the usual bottles. Weekdays bring a lunch set called Build Your Set, so a midday visit can be a fixed meal rather than a full order from the menu. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Borscht draws the most mentions, called a highlight by one diner and delicate, perhaps too much so, by another who remembers a stronger version from home. Close behind are the pelmeni, served with broth and sour cream, and the zapekanka, whose strawberry sauce one couple praised, though another felt it was more cheesecake than traditional zapekanka. Khachapuri, beef stroganoff, mors, kvass and a series of nastoyka infusions also get named. Service is widely praised, with several servers described as caring and knowledgeable. The recurring complaint is small portions for the price, raised by two reviewers. One diner describes draniki arriving cold alongside the starter, then returning about half an hour later reheated and rubbery, after a waiter responded by asking how they were supposed to be. Another found the room cold and objected to a tip added on top of an automatic service charge. Two diners recall servers explaining how to eat each dish, such as adding sour cream to the soup.

“First of all, I'd say Sonya working there is a real asset for this establishment, which shows the old truth: people are important. Her service was great and I could tell she's knowledgeable about what they serve there, which is not always the case. I didn't need much help but I've seen her explaining to other customers dishes they weren't familiar with. Efficient and simple. Food was very good but I didn't expect anything less. Borsch was so delicate, maybe even too much. I haven't had borsch in years but in my home it would have had much stronger flavours and smell. New experience for me and not a bad one. Pelmeni were excellent, deep flavours, good amount of filling and dough which is exactly my kind of dough. Not super soft or thin, with distinctive texture and elastic structure. I like the fact they'd serve it with broth and sour cream so you can add it as you like. Kvass was ok, proper kvass, it's not for everyone. Only one small thing: place feels kinda cold, not very welcoming, at least that was my impression. Thank you again Sonya and the team. EDIT: Visited again for okroshka, and it was so good. Shame it's served with chicken and not with grounded beef but it's small detail. OK, portion could have been bigger, for this weather it's ideal meal to eat. Herring in beetroot was ok, never had it served this way, so new experience but I'd prefer herring less sweet. Small advise: if you charge for service automatically, please don't do it again when using paying panel. Tip on top of the tip, for what, one might ask. Not cool.”

“Best Russian food I've had in a restaurant in London. Everything is beautifully presented and the restaurant deco is russian with a modern twist. I would highly recommend it if you feel for some Russian food or if you just want some good food.”

“Nice, considerate place with straightforward service and a simple menu. Clean, delicious, and very down-to-earth. Every dish was served promptly and prepared well. The only thing that didn’t quite work for me was the zapekanka—to my taste, it was more like a cheesecake than a traditional zapekanka.”

“It’s been one of the best experiences in a long time. Food tasted wonderful with a beautiful presentation. The service from Aidana was really genuine with care. Series of Nastoyka is absolutely worth giving a go. It’s more than just infused vodka”

“Incredible evening at Zima, our waitress Maryna (who was so lovely and attentive) approached us speaking Russian which made our whole experience so memorable. The food was authentically Russian, with everything being seasoned and flavoured perfectly. Top spot if you’re reminiscing Russian cuisine and its hospitality!”
