About Prix Fixe Soho

Prix Fixe Soho is a French restaurant at 39 Dean St in London, where live pianists play in the evening while the regular à la carte menu is served. Lunch is a set two-course menu, and a separate pre-show prix fixe menu sits alongside it. The kitchen cooks traditional French dishes, among them steak frites, which pairs chargrilled entrecôte and bavette with bordelaise sauce and frites. Beef bourguignon is on the beef list too. Wine and champagne are poured by the glass. Reservations are required, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the set menu lunch as the draw, praising its value for central Soho. Beef leads the specifics: a beef bourguignon, a rich beef with a deep, well-reduced sauce, braised short rib, and a bavette steak with bordelaise sauce and frites that one weekly regular orders on every visit. That reviewer advises nothing beyond medium rare, bread for mopping up the sauce, and booking ahead. Close behind come garlicky grilled mussels, entrecote frites, duck confit and a sticky toffee pudding. Service is described as friendly and attentive, and one group celebrating a birthday said the staff made it special. The caveats are modest. One diner found the à la carte prices a bit high for food that was well prepared but not particularly memorable, and another called the presentation simple rather than refined, though the flavour made up for it. One diner describes the waitress pointing out they had not yet asked for the bill, with no rush to leave the table.

“Excellent value, especially in this part of town. Enjoyed the garlicky mussels and pork loins and if I were staying in town for longer, I would certainly want to try the other mains too. Service was friendly and attentive as well.”

“I had a good dinner at Prix Fixe Soho. The food was well prepared, flavorful, and clearly made with care, even if it wasn't particularly memorable. The à la carte prices felt a bit high for what was served, but the overall quality was solid. I'd be happy to give it another try, especially at lunch, as I'd like to experience their prix fixe menu, which seems to offer better value. Overall, a pleasant meal and worth considering if you're in the area.”

“Lunch with our grandchild. Chose starter selection and everything was absolutely delicious. Really amazing value. 3 of us well fed for under £50 in the middle of London. Amazing”

“Nestled in the busy heart of soho, this French restaurant has a pre-show prix fixe menu which has a lot of delicious choices. In the evening it’s the regular expanded menu. We sat inside., but street side seating possible. We started with the beef tartare and hammock and pistachio terrine. Both very tasty and ample portions. The cauliflower schnitzel and entrecôte frites were both very satisfying. We finished with a shared sticky toffee pudding which was one of the best I’ve had. Full and very satisfied we expected the bill. And the waitress said you haven’t asked for it yet. Love the French way of dining. No rush just letting you enjoy the food.”

“I really rate this restaurant, I stay in London with work each week and I always find myself coming back. The staff are always incredibly welcoming and attentive, and they always make sure I have a nice table. I have only ever tried one dish on my repeat visits, the bavette steak, bordelaise sauce and frites. Had it multiple times and enjoyed it every time. Nothing more than medium rare would be my recommendation, and you can use the complimentary bread to mop up the sauce. Price point feels right to me; as it is good quality and a generous portion. As always, I’d recommend booking, it is on Open Table, my preferred app. The rest of the menu looks great, and I’ve seen plenty of fellow diners try the other dishes and enjoy them, but I enjoy the bavette so much I struggle to stray from it!”
