About Berners Tavern

Berners Tavern is a contemporary British restaurant inside the London Edition hotel in Fitzrovia, at 10 Berners St in London. The main hall has paintings covering its walls, and a separate smaller room sits alongside it. The menu runs to 10 dishes, among them a pork and pistachio pie served with pickles and mustard and a prawn cocktail with a hint of wasabi in the dressing. The roast comes with live jazz from a band or singer, so the meal has music alongside it. Groups are covered by a private dining room, and a set menu is on offer for those who want a fixed selection. Desserts include a chestnut and pear mousse.

Customer Review Summary

The main criticism is noise and disorganised service. One reviewer describes four waiters taking drink orders at once, then none appearing, a lost reservation and a drink charged twice, and calls the food mediocre with few traditional British options. Others find it slightly loud, and one finds the wine pricey. When the meat dishes fell short for one group, staff tasted the dish themselves and brought out other food to make up for it.

“The service seemed quite disorganised. First they couldn't find my reservation. Then, when we sat in, we had 4 different waiters come to take our drink in the first five minutes. Then the waiters entirely disappeared somewhere. My friend's drink didn't arrive, so I had to remind them for it, and they ended up charging it twice. Overall, I got the impression the staff was not trained and the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. There definitely seems to be vast room for improvement on the organisation front. For a simple start, they could have a dedicated waiter per table, as they do in most normal restaurants. The fact that we didn't have a specific waiter only added to the feeling of messiness and chaos. The food is pretty mediocre. There weren't many traditional British options and I feel this is what most visitors would expect due to the way the place is marketed. The hall is beautiful but due to the space acoustic it gets super noisy. We could hardly hear each other with my friend who was less than a meter away. If you don't mind shouting over dinner, you might enjoy it.”

“What an absolute dream of a meal! The restaurant itself is breathtakingly beautiful, and the food and service were top-tier across the board. The set menu is such an amazing value and so delicious! While every course was wonderful, the highlight had to be the steak—cooked to absolute perfection with crispy fries, velvety béarnaise sauce, and a glorious glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It doesn't get much better than this!”

“A restaurant with a truly magical atmosphere right in the middle of the city! The staff is wonderfully helpful and polite, and they accommodated our group of eight with a fantastic round table. The dining room is stunning, surrounded by walls filled with amazing paintings. We started with lovely appetizers and enjoyed an excellent fish course. While the meat dishes weren't quite up to the same standard that evening, the team handled it with total grace—tasting the dish themselves and bringing out other delicious food to make up for it. Even top-tier restaurants can have an off item occasionally, and their outstanding service showed how much they care. We will definitely be back to give them another try!”

“An exceptional experience at Berners from start to finish. The atmosphere, food, and overall standard of the restaurant were excellent, but what truly stood out was the level of service. I would particularly like to recognise Sadik, who was absolutely outstanding. He was attentive without being intrusive, incredibly helpful, professional, and genuinely thoughtful throughout our visit. He was always one step ahead, making sure everything was taken care of and that we were comfortable. It is rare to come across someone who combines such professionalism with genuine care for guests. Sadik clearly takes pride in what he does, and his attention to detail and dedication made a real difference to our experience. Exceptional service deserves to be mentioned, and Sadik certainly deserves the highest praise. He is a real credit to Berners and played a big part in making our visit such a memorable one. Thank you to the entire team at Berners, and especially to Sadik, for such a wonderful experience. I look forward to returning.”
