About Carousel
Carousel is a modern European restaurant at 19-23 Charlotte St. in London, built around a different guest chef each week. Each residency is served as a tasting menu with set courses and optional wine pairing, so the menu changes from one visit to the next. Cocktails are available alongside it. The main restaurant offers a set menu at lunch. Diners share one large room, and the seats by the French doors face the street. Cometa, a New Mexican seafood restaurant, operates inside the building as a second place to eat. A private dining room is available for groups. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
Carousel is built around its rotating guest chef residencies, and reviewers split sharply on them. Praise centers on a red mullet with crispy scales that one couple expect to talk about for a long time, and on a Bengali menu where shutki, tenga and dim bhuna felt nostalgic and an oyster won over a diner who dislikes oysters. A seven-course Vietnamese and French tasting menu drew praise for knowledgeable staff, wine pairings and cocktails, and a few like that a different chef each week means different food. Cometa, the Mexican seafood restaurant inside, earns a mention for its crab chilpachole rice with smoked eel cream. The complaints are specific. Two residencies were called bland and underseasoned, with only the leeks and iberico singled out as highlights at one. Another diner found portions small for the price and the single large room a bit like a cafeteria. One reviewer reports no water refills, little service, and a long wait for the bill while staff joked and cleaned up, despite a high service charge.

“I went here in February 2026 for Celine Pham's residency. I love the concept of a moving chef, but it is a bit sad that we couldn't come back to Carousel for a specific dish we liked. Despite this, the experience was nice to see her take on Vietnamese-French fusion. I enjoyed hearing the inspiration for each dish. Food wise, it was good but I felt that the price did not match. It was a bit high for the quality and portion sizes. The service and cocktails were great though! The decor was modern and nicely dimly lit, but it had a slight feeling of a cafeteria due to being all sat in one large room.”

“We went to Carousel for Mama Roti’s tasting menu with high expectations but unfortunately it was a real disappointment. The chef may have built a strong following on Instagram, but the food simply didn’t justify the reputation. It was bland, underseasoned, and lacked both colour and flavour. For Indian-inspired cuisine, it was surprisingly uninspiring, and none of the dishes were memorable or exciting. We left underwhelmed, which is a real shame because we love Carousel’s concept. However, this residency felt far below the standard we’d expect from Carousel, and after this experience, we’ll be hesitant to come back.”

“Interesting concept with a different chef cooking each week so always different food when you go. As it's a tasting menu not all the food was my taste but was a great way to try different things. Overall would definitely go back again”

“✨️🇧🇩 food by RotiMami, Rezma Rahman - was an emotional and tantalising experience. It was so emotional, an aunty cried! The Sylheti Bengali representation throughout the menu was a cross generational nostalgic journey. Her take on home and village classics like shutki (fermented dried fish paste) to tenga (citrusy fishy tomato soup) to dim bhuna (curried egg)..and so much more; were honest and innovative and not in a pretentious way. I mean the OYSTER, like, I dont even like oysters! But she managed to somehow make the oyster taste nostalgic and left me wanting more! How!? This was an authentically classy plating of our heritage from our mothers and aunties and grandma's hands - reminding YOU ALL that we and this food is NOT Indian, it is Bangalee from the land called Bangladesh. Cheers to the team at Carousel for delivering the food with such care and appreciation.”
