About Ima
Ima is a Japanese vegetarian sushi restaurant in London at 16 Exmouth Market, with plants filling the dining room. The menu is entirely plant-based and built around nigiri and rolls, so the sushi here is made without fish. Two set menus are offered for sharing, the Chef's Experience Menu and the Premium Sushi Feast, which suit tables that want to try several dishes at once. Dessert includes ice cream mochi. The team makes menu recommendations to diners who want help choosing. Reservations are required, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the cod, with one naming the miso cod as the standout of the night and another loving the black cod roll. Close behind are the crispy wontons, the Ima Spicy Tuna, the takoyaki and warm salted edamame, which one reviewer found divine after only ever having it cold. Parsnip tempura, spring rolls, the umami dragon and a pancake starter also draw praise, as do the Yuzu margarita and Choya plum wine. Several vegan and vegetarian diners describe sushi that never feels like a compromise, and one friend who avoids raw fish enjoyed the curry rice. A set menu for two lets a pair try several sushi styles at once. The complaints are small: one reviewer found the butternut squash light on squash with too many sesame seeds, and another calls the prices a little high. Servers are credited with friendly recommendations, and one waiter let a party use a table before a reservation arrived. At one birthday table, staff sang and brought ice cream mochi.

“I love being able to eat everything off the menu without having to think about it. Mostly plant based, vegetarian restaurant. Loved the sushi roll and Nigiri! The desserts sounded absolutely amazing but I was already too full. Service was lovely. Will come back for sure 😋”

“We had some serious vegan sushi at Ima today and absolutely loved it! The food was incredibly creative, beautifully presented and delicious. There was so much flavour in every dish, and all of them felt genuinely exciting. The staff were also lovely, very friendly, welcoming and helpful with their recommendations and advice, which made the whole experience even better. Our favourite was definitely the takoyaki: absolutely incredible and probably the highlight of the meal! It is a little on the pricey side, but we thought it was completely worth it for the quality and creativity. We’ll definitely be coming back!”

“We had ordered parsnip tempura, spring rolls and umami dragon Absolutely brilliant taste, I had never seem so much delicious and varied options in sushi which is purely vegan. I would be visiting this place again and again. Staff was cordial, I didn’t take name but male staff who served us was very helpful with recommendations too. We had visited on 24th July and I would higgly recommend this place & hope they open more branches in other areas.”

“4/5 Stars - Fantastic Sushi and Great Outdoor Vibes in London! We had a wonderful dinner sitting outside on a beautiful London evening at Ima Sushi. The overall atmosphere was lovely, and we were looked after by a very energetic gentleman whose great service made the night even better. We started our meal with the butternut squash, which was a nice way to kick things off, though it was a bit light on the actual squash and had a few too many sesame seeds. The wontons, however, were perfect—incredibly crispy and full of flavor. For the sushi, we tried several different options, and each one had its own unique flavor profile. The Ima Spicy Tuna was a great choice, but the absolute standout and personal favorite of the night was the miso cod. We finished everything off with the mochi for dessert, which was the perfect sweet end to the meal. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with great food and a wonderful outdoor setting. We would definitely return!”

“Ima Sushi is an amazing place for vegans who want to enjoy proper sushi without feeling like they are missing out. The variety was impressive, and everything tasted fresh, creative and beautifully presented. We had the Chef’s Experience Menu for two and especially loved the Premium Sushi Feast — a fantastic way to try several different styles at once. Highly recommended!”
