About Jidori
Jidori is a Japanese restaurant at 15 Catherine St in London, where a karaoke dinner combo lets diners pair a meal with a bookable karaoke session. The kitchen builds its plates around locally sourced ingredients. Yakitori skewers include negima, and the donburi rice bowls include a salmon donburi. Curry scotch eggs add a twist to the menu, and vegan and vegetarian options sit alongside the meat and fish dishes. A lunch deal comes with a drink. The dining room is dimly lit.

Customer Review Summary
Yakitori draws the most attention and divides reviewers. One praises the breast and mushroom skewers, while others find the seasoning too salty or too sweet, the negima and tebasaki nearly inedible, and the chicken skin with cartilage bitter. Close behind is the rice soaked in chicken soup, which two reviewers say rescued their meal, and the salmon sashimi donburi, called the best one a diner has ever had. The seaweed sprinkled fried chicken wings, curry scotch eggs, lemonade and ginger ice cream also earn mentions, though one finds the ginger sauce too sweet. Lunch is described as good value, and two reviewers mention the karaoke dinner combo. Service splits. Several call the staff lovely and friendly, but one reviewer describes dishes arriving in staggered waves over a very long stretch, with some at the table left eating rice alone. Others report lukewarm plates, including grilled prawns still cold in the middle, and a cold sweet potato starter with egg that felt like it should be hot.

“It was simple dinner yet wonderful experience. I ordered plenty of food and portions were big enough for me, especially considering Japanese meal portions are usually smaller. Yakitori (ordered breast and mushrooms) was delicious, rice was as expected. I ordered sake as drink and ginger ice cream as desert. The only improvement point might be reducing the sugar amount of ginger sauce of the ice cream. Other than that it was not an expensive restaurant considering how much i ate! Definetly come back!”

“The food is delicious and there are so many vegan options but the service was a DISASTER. Our waitress was new and I'm not sure if she or the kitchen is to blame but all the food took over 1.5hrs to arrive with the first plate arriving in 20 mins, the rest after an hour, more after 1 hr 15 mins and one of hour poor friends had to wait 1 hr 30 mins to get her food. Some people were eating rice alone. Shameful, honestly. They even charge 13.5% service.”

“I really wanted to enjoy this place. I had been following them for quite sometime, and my husband and I were so excited to finally try this place out. However, the food itself was such a let down. The yakitori was at some points inedible - the negima and tebasaki were so salty you could only have one bite before frantically looking for your water glass. I’m assuming someone knocked the salt over when grilling, and figured we wouldn’t notice. The rest of the dishes were lukewarm, at best. (A bit concerning when one of those things was grilled prawns - still cold in the middle). We ordered maybe 8-10 dishes and I think my favorite thing was the side of rice we were recommended on adding. The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one was that the waitress we had was beyond lovely. She was so kind and bubbly - when she asked how our food was we didn’t want to mention anything purely because we didn’t want to see her disappointed! They did mention there were a few larger parties dining with them last evening, so I’m hoping it was just one very bad experience, as we had heard such good things about this place.”

“I received this as a recommendation and due to my avoidance of carbs yakatori is perfect for me. I went in with high expectations and unfortunately Jidori fell a little flat, although it was good food it wasn't exceptional and all the dishes were missing that final punch of flavour. The seaweed sprinkled fried chicken wings were the stand out dish as they had a great favour and were delicately battered. Everything else was pleasant but was just to monotone.”

“Best salmon sashimi donburi I have ever had! The lemonade is also very tasty and the lunch deal is great value. I really recommend this place and you can also book for karaoke.”
