About Shoryu Ramen Covent Garden
Shoryu Ramen Covent Garden is a Japanese restaurant at 35 Great Queen St in London, centred on tonkotsu ramen. The Hakata Tonkotsu comes with a creamy white broth, a soft-boiled marinated egg and char siu pork belly, and the Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen is another bowl on the menu. Starters include Tetsunabe Pork Gyoza and takoyaki, the octopus balls often ordered as a shared plate. Every table has fresh garlic with a garlic press and a grinder of toasted sesame seeds, so diners can add both to their ramen as they eat. The restaurant takes walk-ins. A student deal runs Monday to Friday and pairs a bowl of ramen with a side of edamame. The kitchen takes last orders 30 minutes before closing.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken katsu curry ramen is the bowl reviewers name most, with one calling it stunning and another describing it as very different and not too spicy. Close behind is the tonkotsu, where one diner describes a creamy white broth with strong pork flavour, thin firm noodles, a soft-boiled marinated egg and smoky char siu pork belly, and another praises a meaty broth with perfect noodles. The limited edition Jiro ramen, the Dracula ramen and a spicy vegan ramen with tofu also earn praise. Takoyaki comes up most among the sides, alongside tetsunabe pork gyoza, chicken karaage and sesame and spicy cucumber starters called refreshing. Service is repeatedly described as friendly, quick and helpful, and one parent notes staff checked on food allergies and suggested child menu items. Drawbacks are few. One reviewer waited a very long time for food and found it a tad pricey, and another found the seating limited with the place packed, suggesting a reservation. Each table has fresh garlic with a press and a grinder of toasted sesame seeds for adding to the bowl.

“I was catching up on getting good Japanese food while visiting London, and Shoryu Ramen Covent Garden quickly became my go-to restaurant. With friendly and fast service and a nice mix of starters and main courses it was just perfect to satisfy the Japanese cuisine itch I had. The sesame and spicy cucumber starters were especially refreshing, the takoyaki (octopus balls) were great, as was the katsu curry.”
