Quick info
About Hakkasan Mayfair
Hakkasan Mayfair is a Chinese restaurant at 17 Bruton St in London, spread across two floors. The menu pairs dim sum, including a vegetarian option, with modern Cantonese dishes such as spicy prawns, and set menus are offered for those who prefer a fixed order. Meals can end with a dessert that looks like a giant Ferrero Rocher filled with ice-cream, which many tables order. The decor is dark and minimalist, and the lower floor dining room has a DJ playing electronic music. The team explains each dish as it is served, and a sommelier gives wine recommendations. Cocktails are also part of the offer.

Customer Review Summary
Dim sum draws the most mentions, with reviewers calling the dim sum basket great, the vegetarian dim sum a standout and dim sum the highlight of one dinner. Close behind are the spicy prawns, whole Peking duck, beef dumpling and a duck salad described as the standout dish. Diners also praise the stylish, dark dining room with a DJ downstairs, the cocktails, and a sommelier's wine pairing. Desserts split opinion: one reviewer loved a giant Ferrero Rocher style dessert filled with ice cream and another praised the lemon cake, while others found the signature dessert tasted like Kinder chocolate or was sweeter than sugar. Several complaints centre on flavour: spring rolls served dry with no dipping sauce, fried prawns that tasted strange and heavy, bland mains needing chilli oil, and a sweet and sour sauce that covered the fish. Service draws mixed comments, with some finding staff attentive and others describing language confusion and a mix-up over wine. One birthday-style celebration dessert arrived without the requested name, and a table near the kitchen was moved on request.

“Couldn’t fault the meal - but need stronger arms for the bathroom door, lol. Nice welcome and I loved the uniform of female staff. Both of our waiters were friendly. Had one of the set menus and enjoyed all 3 courses. The dim sum basket was great. The prawn curry had the gentlest of kicks which was great for me as I don’t like hot spices. The chicken in satay sauce was good. It wasn’t your usual thick satay sauce. And the dessert - amazing. It was like a giant ferreo Roche filled with ice-cream. We had 1 each but the size is more of a sharing size, especially after such a large meal. Thankfully the waiter allowed us some time before he brought the dessert. Heads up - not sure if it’s my weak arms but I found the doors to the ladies' toilets really heavy to open and almost asked for assistance, lol.”

“The food was good overall and we enjoyed what we ordered. The atmosphere was pleasant, although quite different from the other Hakkasan locations we have visited before. Unfortunately, the service was not quite at the same level. Communication was a little difficult at times, as the staff didn’t always understand what we were asking for, and there was also some confusion with the wine we ordered. Overall, still a nice experience and good food, but the service could definitely be improved to match the standard we’ve experienced at other Hakkasan locations.”

“From the moment you walk into Hakkasan Mayfair, you know you’re about to have a truly unique experience. We were escorted to our table on the lower floor, where a DJ was playing amazing electronic music that created the perfect atmosphere. The décor is elegant, minimalist, and absolutely stunning. The space is dark, mysterious, and almost magical, making the whole experience feel very special. The food was simply outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the staff carefully explained each one as it was served. Everything was so incredibly flavorful that I honestly didn’t want the meal to end. This was much more than just dinner—it was a complete dining experience. I would definitely come back to enjoy these wonderful dishes again. Highly recommended.”

“Beautiful decor, fabulous food and incredible service. The spicy prawns and vegetarian dim sum are standouts but we have never had a dish here that we didn’t love. The desserts are divine, especially the lemon cake.”
