Quick info
About Gerrard's Corner
Gerrard's Corner is a Chinese restaurant at 30 Wardour St in London, with a Cantonese menu built around dim sum. The main dining room is large and set up banquet-style, and a basement room below it is decorated with Chinese motifs. Beyond the dim sum, the kitchen turns out Peking duck, including whole ducks, and roast pork rice. Payment is taken at the table by card machine before the food arrives, and a service charge is added, as noted in small print on the menu. Noodles are served in large portions.

Customer Review Summary
Dim sum is what most reviewers return for, with the seafood and shrimp dumplings called tasty and one diner coming back the next day for more. The whole Peking duck is close behind, described as excellent and very tasty by several. The steamed pork rib, a noodle dish with huge portions, and dessert each get a single mention. Several call the value great and the price reasonable for a group, though others find it overpriced, citing an iced lemon tea they felt was not worth it and roasted pork that was only ok. Service splits sharply. Some describe a quick, friendly team that looked after groups well, while others found it stressed, impersonal, or abrupt, including a hostess one late-night diner called almost aggressive. One reviewer reports a server squeezed their finger while explaining whether the duck contained bones. Extra charges draw the sharpest complaints: reviewers say payment is taken before the food arrives, a service charge sits in small print, and dipping sauce and a second teacup were billed extra without being mentioned.

“The iced lemon tea is 7 pounds! Not worth it. The roasted pork rice is ok but the roasts pork is only ok level. The steam pork rib is very good.”

“Utterly ripped off!Came in for a quick snack late at night.Hostess was almost aggressive.Kept waving her hand at us to come over,no smile,no “hello”,threw some menus on the table and snapped “30 minutes”.We heard another couple who came in later on say exactly the same thing. If you don’t want customers at this time of night, then you should close earlier. We ordered some dim sum and they asked us if we wanted some dipping sauce so we said yes.No mention of the fact it was £5 extra.I have rarely been to restaurants who charge extra for sauce and,if they do,they will always tell you so - so this felt very sneaky and underhanded. They also had that they charge service charge in very small writing which we missed.I will hold my hands up and admit we should have looked more carefully. They make you pay before you get the food (that should have been our first clue!) and I don’t recall them bringing an itemised bill, just the card machine.Again, our fault for not looking more carefully at the time, but we only registered it slightly after - we had been charged an additional £7+ on what we had expected! We also saw that the table next to us had been charged for takeaway boxes!! The food was quite tasty and arrived promptly,so that was a positive. However this was the last part of a lovely night out and we left on a down note feeling like we had just been scammed.Very disappointing and pretty unethical.Photo of the £5 dipping sauce with teaspoon for scale provided.”

“Four of us came for a girls catch up and had a fantastic experience. Kim was incredibly friendly, attentive and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. She looked after us throughout the evening and made sure everything was perfect. The food was delicious. The rest of the staff were also warm and helpful, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you!”

“We pop in here to eat at this restaurant with my family. The service was quick; they found us a table and took our orders correctly. We waited a little while for our food, but that was understandable as there were many large groups at the time. The food that arrived looked delicious and tasted great. I enjoyed the dessert, while my family particularly liked the duck; they said it was very tasty. The price is reasonable for a group. If you're walking around Soho, stopping by this Chinese restaurant is a great idea, in my opinion.✨🍲”
