Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the Sunday roast, especially the sharing platter or board version, with sirloin steak slices, big Yorkshire puddings and unlimited roasties, greens and gravy. The roasties draw the strongest praise, and one diner calls them the best they have ever had. Close behind is the burger, where one reviewer describes a juicy patty, a choice of cheeses and a kitchen that kept a late order warm. The chocolate orange cheesecake and roasted garlic get a mention as extras. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and attentive without being too much, and several note the pub took a walk-in on a nearly full Easter Sunday. Family birthdays, a Christmas gathering and an anniversary touch were handled in the private dining room and dining room. Reviewers raise no recurring complaint. Several first-time visitors say they plan to return for the sharing boards, and one asks that the homely Sunday format stay as it is, preferring it to a carvery conveyor belt lunch.

“Burger brilliance at The Lancaster, Desford 🍔 I arrived late. Very late. The sort of late where you’re expecting your burger to have been abandoned, mourned, and possibly repurposed as tomorrow’s staff dinner. But no. The Lancaster had other plans. My burger had been lovingly kept warm, waiting patiently for my arrival like a loyal Labrador who’d been promised a walk three hours earlier. And what a burger it was. Expertly cooked by Slav, who clearly understands that a burger is not simply food — it is a structural engineering project involving beef, heat, cheese and considerable personal responsibility. The patty was cooked beautifully, juicy, full of flavour and sufficiently substantial to make me question whether I had ordered dinner or accidentally purchased a small piece of real estate. Then came the cheese. Or should I say… The Cheese Lottery. The waitress arrived and asked which cheese I wanted. A simple enough question, you might think. But apparently there was a selection, and I was invited to choose my fate. I selected my cheese with the confidence of a man who absolutely knew what he was doing. I did not. But whichever cheesy destiny awaited me, it worked spectacularly. The whole thing was bloody excellent. Great burger, perfectly cooked, generous toppings, molten cheese and, most importantly, the rare luxury of a kitchen that can apparently accommodate customers who operate on their own completely unnecessary time zone. So, five stars for Slav, five stars for the burger, five stars for the cheese lottery and five stars for keeping my dinner warm while I conducted whatever extremely important business had made me late. Would absolutely recommend. Although next time, I’ll try arriving on time. No promises, though.”

“First time at the Lancaster Arms and won’t be our last! Sunday lunch was amazing, sooooo tasty and plenty of it. The roasties are to die for and the roasted garlic was a delicious bonus. I have to mention the chocolate orange cheesecake too … delicious 😋 We were served by Esme & Ellie who were lovely, very attentive without being too much. Thank you, we will be back 🙂 x”

“We came in on a whim while driving past and were so glad we did! We had a few drinks outside in the lovely beer garden before deciding to stay for some food. The staff were lovely, friendly and very attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a really enjoyable time and will definitely be coming back. We’ve also heard great things from other customers about the Sunday sharing boards, so we’ll definitely be back to give those a try too! Highly recommend.”
