About The Birch Tree
The Birch Tree is a pub on Bardon Rd in Coalville, just off a roundabout and now under new owners. Inside, the layout is split into a bar area and a separate eating area, with a front seating area at the entrance. The kitchen cooks its dishes fresh on site, and the drinks list covers beers and wines. A Sunday roast is served at lunch, and the same day brings a quiz night. At the back, a landscaped south-facing beer garden gives a choice of sunny and shady places to sit. A small parking area sits to the side of the building. Dogs are allowed in both the bar and the dining area.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Sunday lunch and pub classics, with a classic roast described as cooked beautifully and a steak and ale pie called the best one reviewer had eaten anywhere. Close behind are fish and chips and a ploughman's lunch, both praised, alongside a Sunday quiz night described as lively and full of laughter. Many mention friendly staff, new owners, and a dog-friendly dining area, and one describes a wedding reception where staff went the extra mile. The landscaped back garden and front seating get mentions on sunny days, though one visitor found the beer garden closed after rain. The caveats are specific. One lunch diner was told the ploughman's was off, found no burger on the limited menu, and was not asked how he wanted his steak ciabatta done, which arrived with onion chutney rather than onions. He also balked at dessert prices and left without ordering. Another noted staff unsure what came with a meal and pouring the wrong draught drinks.

“Had our wedding reception here on the 11th of July 2026. Absolutely amazing from planning the menu, setting up our table, service and food amazing. The staff and new managers are kind, understanding and all go the extra mile for you. I definitely would recommend this pub. A big thank from Mr and Mrs Ball.”

“I recently spent a lovely Sunday at The Birch Tree, and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience! The vibe was cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax. I enjoyed a classic roast for lunch, and the portion size was just right—not too heavy, but enough to satisfy my Sunday cravings. Everything was cooked beautifully, and the flavors were spot on. After lunch, I jumped into their Sunday quiz night, which turned out to be a highlight! The atmosphere was filled with laughter and friendly banter; it felt like a gathering of friends rather than just a pub event. The host really knew how to keep the energy up, and it was a blast competing with others while enjoying some good-natured fun. Overall, The Birch Tree nailed it with delicious food and a lively atmosphere. I left feeling happy and full, and I can’t wait to go back for another Sunday of good food and great laughs!”

“Huge success in the change over of owners. They’ve put so much love and energy into it and you can really feel it! Had such a lovely evening. There’s front seating now which is perfect in the sun! And the food was 10/10! Will be coming a lot now!”

“Nipped in here for a Sunday lumch as drive by it like a thousand times. Its located just off a roundabout so traffic can be heavy. It does have a small parking area to the side. Food was nice and tasty with good portion sizes. Price was only just above average than most places. Some staff need a little more training as was unsure what came with the meal when asked. Also didnt know what drinks were on draught and poured us the wrong drinks which we said nothing about at the time. But all staff were friendly. The venue itself is split into a bar area and eating area and looks well kept and nice.”
