Customer Review Summary

Sunday roast draws the most praise, with reviewers describing beef roasts that arrive piping hot in good sized portions, and unlimited Yorkshires and gravy. Close behind, the fish pie is called delicious by one regular, and the gammon is called the best one diner has had in years. A cheese and onion pie with beautiful shortcrust pastry and tasty starters of prawns and mussels also earn mentions. Reviewers repeatedly describe friendly, welcoming staff, and a solo diner says the team made an extra effort. Dogs get treats and a fuss, and the beer garden and large car park come up too. The main complaint comes from one review. No greeting on arrival, a table order that had to be chased, and a fish pie with very little fish, all potato and cheese, which was taken off the bill. Elsewhere, one diner found the soup a bit too salty and gave feedback to staff, and the same diner still called both meals utterly delicious.

“A lovely Saturday lunch as a treat for my mum. Food was amazing, atmosphere just what you want on a cold October day, cosy and welcoming. Staff are attentive but not intrusive! Give it a go, what’s not to like!”

“No greeting on arrival ( 2nd people in the door) despite 2 staff behind the bar. Had to ask if could just take a table or needed to be seated. Forks on table were dirty with dried food. Were changed with comment ' it's water marks' - 30 years in the trade I know the difference between food and water marks so comment was incorrect and unnecessary. Had to ask for order to be taken. Starters were very tasty - prawns/mussels and garlic mushrooms. Not many mushrooms but lots of sauce. Mains arrived - very little fish in the fish pie, especially for the price, it was all potato and cheese. Offered an alternative, however it was the fish pie my husband wanted. It was taken off the bill. My main course was very tasty - the cheese and onion pie - short crust pastry was beautiful. However it arrived with chips instead of the fries I had requested so had to go back. Service needed to be sharper and a check back on the main course rather than having to call someone over. Got the impression they weren't really bothered about our experience.”

“I’m house sitting in the area and over the past week, I’d heard from several people that I should try Plough and Flail. I booked a table for Sunday roast and was delighted. The service was excellent (I was dining on my own and they made an extra effort to make me feel welcome) and the food delicious. I highly recommend.”
