About The Honey Bee

The Honey Bee is a pub in Wilmslow on Altrincham Rd, set in the Cheshire countryside and run in the style of a traditional country pub. The kitchen cooks seasonal pub classics, and Sunday roasts are on the menu, with lamb among the roast dinners. Fish and chips sits alongside lighter lunch options, and a three-course set menu runs as a special. Cask ales cover the drinks side. Puddings include a chocolate brownie served with ice cream.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the Sunday roast, with a lamb roast dinner called one of the best in a long time and another diner pairing the roast with a lentil cottage pie. Fish and chips come close behind, including one portion prepared for a gluten allergy without fuss, along with a fish main on Christmas Day, fish finger sandwiches, a mushroom ciabatta starter and a chocolate brownie. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and one reviewer calls the three-course menu reasonable. The main caveat is service when the pub is busy. One party waited about half an hour for first courses, then watched their server vanish before pudding menus were sorted, so they missed the two-course special price and were charged more per dish with no compensation. Others found a Father's Day lunch rushed, with a scorched, boiling top suggesting the plate sat on the pass, and two noted steaks slightly overcooked. One reviewer advises always reserving for Sunday.

“Visited on Sunday 9th August, was served by Charlii who was absolutely amazing. Couldn't praise a member of staff more!! The whole visit charliii made sure we were okay and happy with everything always offering drinks and refreshments if needed. She was lovely. Food was gorgeous as always we had 2 fish and chips and a Sunday trip and the food was delicious. One of the fish and chips was a gluten allergy and I was well looked after nothing was to much of a fuss. We will be back again !!!”

“Took husband for father's day lunch. The experience was good, but not exceptional. The staff were all working very hard, so credit to them but either not enough staff or too many bookings as the atmosphere just felt rushed or chaotic. The food was nice but it seemed likely it had been sat on the pass for a while before being served to us as the top was boiling hot and scorched. Overall a lovely countryside pub in a great location and yes would 100% return, but, perhaps it would be advisable to choose a regular day as opposed to an event weekend such as father's day.”

“Our party of six was delighted to return to this gem. This ended up being a poor experience on service, which cost us extra in the end. The food we had was delicious and proteins were cooked close to desired temps (mine was slightly over, but ok). The specials menu was set up as two entrees for 25.00. We got our first entrees about 30min after ordering, and the place was pretty empty still. Our server took the menus when we ordered and said she would bring them back afterward so we could order pudding and complete the second course to get the special price. A male server delivered our meals along with our female server. We finished our meals. 35 min later our server had not checked back and was no where to be found. I went and got the male server and asked if our server was ok or left. He provided no insight and just said he would be right over with pudding menus. He brought them, and then started handling 4 other tables at the same time, as the place was filling up. Our server never returned. The male server took pudding menus to the table next to us, took two other table orders, returned to the table next to us to inquire about desert, and never came back to us. After another 20 min, we decided to pay and leave. Both the male server and bartender were apologetic, however neither of them offered to compensate for us being unable to complete the specials courses for the special price. We were charged more per dish, after waiting more than an hour to try and order the second course. A verbal apology means very little when it costs the customer extra for a poor experience. A very disappointing finish to what was a good main course. A very odd experience to have the server disappear for the rest of the evening with no explanation and no follow-up on our table. A disappointing bill, given we should have each had the special price and were not offered a discount or the comp of one meal for the poor experience. We recommend the food, but cannot recommend the service. Its a dice roll, and if mistakes are made or service is poor you probably won't have any adjustments offered.”
