Customer Review Summary

Friendly, polite table service is what most reviewers return to, with servers described as attentive and full of energy. One waiter patiently handled a family party of carnivores, vegans and vegetarians, including someone with an allergy. The food earns steady praise, from braised steak with mash and green beans to fish and chips and fresh pizza and chips. Diners call the prices reasonable, and one family said all four plates were cleared, including a fussy eater's. A two course lunch with a drink also drew a good word. The criticisms are fewer and specific. One diner found the jacket potato skin tough and the plate bland looking, and another felt portions were not huge. One reviewer had a clearly poor visit at the bar, saying a staff member answered a request for tap water in a low, unclear manner and then seemed to avoid serving further drinks. Two birthday parties ended on a personal touch, a card from a waiter and a drink from the bar staff.

“Visited The Griffin for a family birthday. Service was excellent - our waiter bought us a birthday card too!! We had a range of ages, carnivores, vegans and vegetarians, including someone with an allergy. The waiter was patient and made sure we were all sorted out with our various requirements. Very relaxed environment and plenty of parking. Food was a good quality - not huge in quantity but all cooked and prepared well. I'm not reviewing related to cost because ALL restaurants and pubs are struggling at the moment. Yes, to me it was quite a lot, but 7 people had a lovely time and enjoyed being in the pub. So, to conclude, for a family birthday it was perfect. Well done then the staff for making our visit so enjoyable. 😁👍”

“Staff extremely polite and efficient. There's an allocated doggie area for those out walking their pooch which was very welcoming. Food looked 'bland' but enjoyed by all though the skin on the jacket potato was tough, perhaps could serve jackets and steak with a small side salad to make it more colourful and appetizing. Overall good choices of food at reasonable prices and staff excellent.”

“I visited Griffin Bar yesterday during a very difficult time in my life. I had just received the heartbreaking news that two of my friends had passed away in India. I’m new to Manchester and have recently started a new job, so I was already feeling very stressed and emotional. I came to the bar hoping to have a quiet drink and calm myself. Unfortunately, my experience made things worse. The staff member behind the bar (tall, wearing glasses) was quite rude. The bar was not busy, and when I politely asked for tap water, he responded in a very low and unclear manner. I couldn’t understand him, and another customer nearby laughed, which made me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. After serving me a couple of drinks, he also seemed to avoid serving me further, which added to the negative experience. As a BA (Hons) Hospitality Management student and I am working as an F&B manager in a big hotel, I understand how stressful this job can be. However, professionalism, basic courtesy, and empathy are essential in hospitality, especially when a guest may be going through a difficult time. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as small acts of kindness can make a big difference. 🙏”
