On Holderness Rd in Hull, The Frying Pan is a family-run fish and chips takeaway that has been trading since 2009. Its scallops are cooked to order and served on a bread cake with salt and vinegar, so they arrive fresh from the fryer. The fish comes with the skin on. Customer Review Summary
Fish is what reviewers return to most, described as fresh, cooked properly and, in one case, served with the skin on. Chips are called fresh and not greasy, and the specials draw repeated praise, including a large fish and chips offer and a chicken nugget special that one reviewer found lovely. Close behind is value, with several calling the portions generous and the prices great for the quality. One regular orders a scallop on a bread cake with plenty of salt and vinegar and notes these are cooked to order, so they take a while to come fresh. Another enjoyed curry sauce and peas, and the pattie balls added as an extra reminded them of the pattie butties they ate as a child. Staff are consistently called friendly, with a few noting that everyone greeted a visiting family and the server chatted with them. No real complaints surface. Several long-time customers say they have used the chippy for years, and one first-time lunchtime visitor says they will be using it again.

“The Frying Pan serves Excellent quality fish and chips. It has been a favourite of ours for some years now. Our usual order is Scallop on a bread cake with lots of salt and vinegar. In Sheffield the scallops are called fishcakes. 2 slices of potatoes, a generous portion of fish inside, then battered and deep fried. They are delicious. These are cooked to order, so need approx. 20 minutes to cook from fresh. Thankyou so much.”
